You know, it would have been interesting if we could have posted this lineup in late April. I think many would have thought "great, another season w/ mulitple injuries and no division race." At least you'd be right about the "no division race" part :)

I'm happy for the the regulars, who get a much-deserved night off, AND for the bench guys who get to contribute tonight...but wow. This wouldn't even qualify as a spring training lineup!

Shouldn't the thread title be changed to "Astros at Bats?"

I'm perfectly OK with this. I'm surprised by it, as Dusty indicated yesterday he wanted to go all in for the 2-seed, but I have no problem with this whatsoever. I may even sit the starters again tomorrow, and then head into the weekend working everyone back in so they don't get too rusty.

I bet we see a heavy dose of Maloney, LeCure, and Fisher out of the pen the next couple of days as well. No sense in burning thru Arthur and Masset when they'll be likely called on every game next week.

LeCure has been tweeting about doctor visits, an MRI on something, and a diagnosis of muscle spasms. I haven't seen anything official, but sounds like a back issue.

True, but I am guessing the Reds need to figure out if they can count on him next week. So, he plays and they see how it goes.

OK...I like the lineup. It's nice to see these guys getting a chance to play and have the regulars take a break. But...

The Reds still need to keep winning. I'd rather not have to play Philadelphia in the first round if Atlanta wins the Wild Card.

Speaking of Yonder, aside from looking like he'd be a fun guy to party with, Walt said something in his interview w/ Pic last night that made me say "mmm...."

When Pic grabbed walt, his first question was how great the scene was in the locker room. Walt's reply was that he had just run across Yonder and he said he asked Yonder if he was ready for 10 more years of this, to which Yonder replied that he was good for at least 15 years. It probably means nothing, and was just an off the cuff question that Walt had for Yonder and was the first thing he thought of to react to Pic, or perhaps there is a long term approach to have both Joey & Yonder in the lineup for the future.

At least one could hope anyways.

Cards won their game with Pujols, Holiday and most of their regulars on the bench.
PJ Walters was the winning pitcher, with seven shutout innings.

Whatever the Cards' scrubs can do, the Reds' scrubs can do better!

I am thinking Dusty may be giving all the regulars a night off at once, and then they will play the remaining games to go after the #2 spot. Instead of sitting a couple guys at a time every game. Personally I like that strategy.

Just a final thought to be the contrarian. Tonight Chris V., Yonder and others made mistakes that cost runs. I have no idea why Dusty decided to go with an all AAA lineup, but it may have cost the Reds a chance to avoid the Phillies in the first round. Many have taken the correct attitude and say, "birng on the Phillies," but it seems to me that maybe a little more restraint was appropriate in this situation. And yet we were so giddy in our championship that Dusty and all of forgot the main goal and that was to advance in the playoffs. I said last night that I was satisfied to make the playoffs, but it seems that maybe we should have rethought that immediate emotional thought. Facing the hammers the Phillies have might be a tough assignment. Just a really stupid move IMHO.

Regardless, maybe that's all we get in 2010. Maybe I'm too hard corre and maybe Dusty is a little too much of a "player's manager." Maybe he was right, but I don't agree. Maybe I'm crazy, but the prize was getting to the World Series. Maybe Cueto deservied better. Maybe it's the end already. I find this disgusting. But, like I said, I am a contrarian and maybe a NL Central championship (as FSO played the Bruce homerun over and over) was enough. Giving up is not in my nature, But maybe it is for most folks.

Exactly. Dusty even said this in his postgame. I would say that if all the regulars had played the result would have been exactly the same. I really wouldn't worry about last night. The main goal this season was making the playoffs. Anything more is gravy.
