Gomes needs to run that out. Once the ball hits the dirt, the catcher has to tag him or throw to first to complete the out, with Phillips moving to second on the pitch. With a runner on third, forcing a throw to first can only lead to good things.

His glove must not have hit the ball. That's the only thing I can figure.

Marty's saying it CLEARLY hit his glove. The debate is whether him hitting the ball interfered with Cain's ability to catch it and whether he leaned out into the field of play. I guess the Umps felt Hart wasn't going to catch it regardless or the guy didn't lean out too much.

Oh, good Lord.

Bailey threw lights out for five innings against the second or third best offense in the National League today. He K'ed 10 and gave up one run. That's against the top power team in the league in a small park, too.

Sometimes, I get the feeling Bailey won't ever win with this fanbase. Too many entirely unrealistic expectations for him to be somehow more than perfect.

I like Bailey and think he will be a star once he learns to be economical with his pitches. But he has a tendency to blow up during the gamers, something he avoided today thanks to a good break once. If it were me, the three pitchers I would use are Arroyo, Cueto, and Wood. Homer would be fine in reliefm but that's jus me.

Random question:

Let's go out on a limb and say the Reds land a WS title. Do ONLY the 25-man for the WS get a $$$ bonus and ring? What about the cats called up in Sept. etc?

If memory serves me, the team can vote shares to anyone they want,

He is very versatile, so he has some value. And no, he's through after tomorrow.

That's a good thing. ;)

Braun to second on fielder's indifference...then a wild pitch sends him to third.

Let's go Nick! Buckle down!

One of the things that strike me about this team is the total inconsistency. Cueto, Arroyo (though not so much), Homer, Masset, the list goes on and on are Jeckyl and Hyde. Goodness!

Janish notches hit #17 for the Redlegs. Infield variety. Reds have gotten hits in EVERY inning today.

Me too. I can't remember what I predicted, but it was in the 80's. I thought next year was the year for 90+ wins. Glad I was wrong.

We were at the game today - a bit grueling to say the least. Walking up to The Rockbottom Brewery for dinner, I told my wife and daughter that it was almost like being at two games with the starters and then the subs. Glad to see us get the win afterall. No one said it has to be pretty. I did call Corky's home run, even hollered for them to throw him a lollipop and then boom! Very chilly by the end. Nice plate of jambalaya hit the spot with a cup of coffee.

BTW, I haven't read the thread yet, so I don't know if someone said this, but it's my guess that by allowing Bailey to throw 119 pitches, that he won't be in the first playoff rotation. That's just my guess and I could be wrong.
