It's Dusty's MO and at this point, I accept (and even appreciate) it. He defers to the vets....I think that is why BP is leading off instead of Stubbs, Gomes is in front of Bruce, and Ramon starts ahead of Hanigan. I'm cool with it.

I'd say that lineup would match up exactly with the "typical" lineup that was run out there most often. In a situation where many of these guys have never faced, with higher expectation and pressure, it probably helps to keep guys in their "typical" spot so as to not have them feel like they need to do something different than they've done all year.

This will be John Hirschbeck's eighth Division Series, and first since 2006. His crew will handle the Reds-Phillies series, which starts Wednesday in Philadelphia. He's joined by Bruce Dreckman, Sam Holbrook, Ed Rapuano, regular-season crew chief Gary Cederstrom and Rob Drake. Drake is making his postseason debut.- MLB story

It is currently 60 degrees with just a chance of scattered showers. Looking at the radar I don't really see any rain around there. The only rain is well to the northwest of Philadelphia.

700 just played the 1990 WS game 2 walk off win off the bat of Joe Oliver. Gotta love Nuxie's unbridled love of the Reds coming thru as he yells "and this one belongs to the Reds". I mentioned this on another board, but for all of his "left-right centerfield"s, a lot of color men could take a note from Nuxie's passion on the home town call. Marty's call of 4192 is more ingrained in me for Nuxie in the background yelling "get down ball, get down!" as much for the actual moment.

I mentioned a day or so ago the Reds could have a game where the pitcher never bats this series (crazy I know)...so I like the thinking of this.

If I’m Dusty Baker, my innings plan for tomorrow goes something like this:

1st – 4th: Volquez
5th – 6th: Wood/Bailey
7th – 8th: Chapman/Massett/Rhodes
9th: Cordero

If handled correctly, the Reds can probably get by only having to let their pitcher hit once, and can ensure that they have a platoon advantage in nearly every high leverage situation they might face. Rather than looking for Volquez to match Halladay by pitching deep into the game, the Reds need to take advantage of their bullpen depth and the copious amount of off-days. Remember, relievers outperform starting pitchers almost across the board because they don’t have to pace themselves, so getting more innings from your relievers is a good idea if you can do it without wearing them out.
