texas, you make a good point. I have to laugh when I see Red Sox fans in different forums complaining how the Yankees payroll is too high.

Between Werth and Crawford this is bad news for the Reds. Basically it has pushed the price of 1 WAR to $5MM. At these prices, Votto will probably get $30-35MM per year when he hits free agency. And if I'm reading the WAR stats right this means Bruce and Stubbs would be $20MM players on the open market? Yikes!

I do laugh too, but the Yanks are the ones who started so high with team salary, and now others feel they have to try and spend and match to remain competetive, esp if your in that division. Is out of control and going to be interesting to watch end of bench payers who get 20 innings or less signing mulit-million dollar contracts. The fans are the ones who lose in the long run though as teams break up and ticket prices go out of control to see "X" player as well as the supporting team around them.
