I'm not sure where he would play.

He's at a stage in his career where it's pretty much DH or nothing.

Seriously though, anyone have stats to show his defense vs. Gomes'? I can't imagine it'd be THAT much worse...

I wouldve thought the same thing, but after watching him play outfield a few games in the playoffs he's very bad out there. worse than gomes. I would like to see them make a run at Manny but I don't think they will. I think he'd be nice to slide into the 4 spot, and protect Votto a little bit.

I agree, Manny in the #4 spot or Vlad for that matter would greatly enhance the lineup but the Reds will not sign either as they'll command too much money and their liability on defense is just too much of a risk.

Can't play D. He's an AL player at this point.

Did Willie Mays hit .300 with 29 hrs and 115 rbis on a team that went to the world series last year? Just saying, its not that ridiculous of a proposition, lol.

Did you watch Vlad play defense in the World Series?

If not, go look it up

I hope no one in the Reds organization is seriously considering either Guerrero or Manny Ramirez! Both are complete liabilities in the outfield - at best they'd be really over-priced pinch hitters in the NL. I'd much rather have Gomes in left than either of these two - he's a Gold Glover by comparison to Guerrero and we all know Gomes out hustles Manny and is a much better clubhouse guy.

Big sticks or not, no thanks!

I still hope for a big stick.Vlad's arm is not that bad, well maybe he isn't the answer. I hope Sappelt realistically might be? I would love to see him catch fire in spring training,I feel we need another bat. It's a lot more fun going into this season anyway. Thanks Mr. Castellini.

Gomes
.981 Fpct
14.203 ZR (higher is better)

Vlad
.933 Fpct
11.600 ZR (higher is better)

How does that compare to some of Dunn's years? Adam could be downright painful to watch out there.

Adam Dunn had UZR ratings of -13.9, -12.8, -18.3, -28.4, -38.9 for his OF play starting in 2005.

Gomes, over the same years is at -7.5, -31.1, -17.8, -40.7, -15.4 which actually looks worse than Dunn.

Guerrero probably has a small sample size, but his ratings over the same 5 years is +7.0, -3.8, -13.0, -12.3, -14.3. Not bad, but again much less playing time in the field.

ManRam looks like this -27.2, -34.7, -20.9, -8.3, -19.0
Don't think I want that roaming the OF.

Then again it would keep the message boards active complaining about his lack of D.

Edit: Sorry, I should have listed these as UZR/150 ratings.

Thanks. Looks like Gomes is noticeably better in the field.

can't believe I am saying this as much as it pains me but you give me that kind of production at the plate and I might. But what is the trade off from what they provide versus what is given up. Any stats on that.

I think Manny is done without the Steroids...

1 Homer in his final 24 Games with the White Sox...

That is just my humble opinion.

I'd really rather have Heisey out there every day than any other realistic options. He is only going to get better and his upside is tremendous.

With the Lewis signing, thats going to have to wait at least one more season.
