And for those who missed it, Homer is heading to the DL. Walt told the WLW guys that he's got an "impingment in his elbow" but it should be only a couple of starts he'll miss. Sounds kind of minor, but I've never heard of this impingment thing before. Sam LeCure will take his rotation spot for now.

~edit~ SHOULDER impingment. Not elbow. My bad guys.

Top of 2nd.

Lead off walk to Johnson. Here we go again. *sigh*
Cabrera stings a liner that Stubbs tracks down. Solid contact.
Kelly with a nice sac bunt.
Denorfia reaches on an error by Valaika. Short hopper eats him up.
Hudson K's

2-0 Pads

Bottom of 2

Bruce stings one, but a nice backhanded stab by Hawpe and Jay's out.
Jonny HBP
Stubbs up. Gomes swipes 2nd. Drew K's looking.
Mesoraco hits one a mile....straight up. Pops out to RF. 3 down.

It remains 2-0 Pads.

Top of the 3rd.

Cantu with a double off the wall over Jay's head. The Pads are CRUSHING the ball off of Edinson. Everything's been hit HARD.
Hawpe with a great ab and works a walk. Mesoraco out to chat with Volquez.
Ludwick K's on 3 pitches. Maybe Devin spotted something. *crosses fingers*
Salazar pops out to Jay. Cantu holds.
Johnson grounds out to SS to end the inning.

2-0 Pads.

Volquez with a decent sac bunt to move Chris to 2nd.
Phillips with a single to right, Valaika scores, Brandon to 2nd on the throw.
Renteria singles to center. Phillips scores.
Votto grounds into ANOTHER double play.

But the Redlegs tie it up. 2-2 after 3.

Top of 4. 2-2 ballgame

Cabrera with a leadoff walk. Leadoff man on every inning thus far. Not good.
Kelly with a bunt to Volquez...close play at 1st. 1 down. Cabrera to 2nd.
Denorfia singles to right. Cabrera however does the unthinkable. He tests Jay's arm. GONE! Nailed at the dish.
Deno to second on the throw.
Hudson walks. That's 4 walks thus far. I'm sorry, but this is NOT a #1 pitcher. Not even CLOSE.
Cantu up. 1st & 2nd, 2 down. Cantu K's swinging to end the inning.

2-2 but this EASILY could be MUCH worse.

Bottom of 4th.

Bruce drives one high off the CF wall. Nearly gone. But I'll take the leadoff double.
Gomes with a shot over the RF's head for a double. Bruce scores.
Stubbs k's swinging.
Mesoraco pops out to the catcher
Valaika k's swinging.

3-2 Reds

Top of 5th. Reds lead 3-2

Hawpe grounds out to Votto on 1 pitch.
Ludwick with a dinger to left. No doubt. 3-3.
Salazar with a shot against the top of the RF wall. Double. Nearly gone. Sheesh. This is nearly batting practice for the Friars.
Tekotte pinch running for Salazar.
Johnson grounds to short. Tekotte holds at 2nd.
Cabrera grounds out to Phillips on a great backhanded snag by the gold glover to end the inning.

3-3 ballgame.

Thus far, it's more of the same from Edinson. He's consistently falling behind hitters 2-0, 3-1 and 3-0. Then when he's got to groove one, the Pads are POUNCING on them. Nearly every hit has been absolutely stung. I know he's behind schedule due to the visa issue, but if his control doesn't improve...QUICKLY, I'd really have to consider taking him out of the rotation for the start of the season and give him the time he so obviously needs.

3-3 game bottom of 5th.

Sappelt leading off (PH for Edinson). Edinson's done. 1st pitch swinging. Double over the head of the LF'er. Un-REAL!
Cairo PH for Phillips. Pop out to right. Sappelt holds.
Rojas (PH) with a sharp liner to center. Sappelt to 3rd. Rojas gets caught off of 1st in a rundown. Gone. Just stupid baserunning.
Votto K's swinging. Not exactly a banner day for Joey. 2 gidp and a K. Yuck.

Lead off double wasted. 3-3 after 5.

Top of 6th. Game locked up at 3 each.

Billy Bray on the bump.

Miller C, Lewis LF, Hermida RF, Heisey CF, Rojas SS, Cairo 2B, Dorn 1B

PH Kyle Blanks grounds out to Bray
Denorfia pops out to Cairo
Hudson K's looking to end the inning. 1-2-3 :O)

Marty's PBP is sorely lacking this inning. Bear with me guys.

Okay, I'm caught up. Sheesh.

Ondrusek in to pitch the 7th.

Cantu singles to left on the 1st pitch (Guzman pinch running for Cantu)
Hawpe walks
Carroll up, Guzman nailed by Corky at 2nd. Nice. Carroll pops up to LF, Lewis misjudges it and over-runs it, bounces behind him. Hawpe tries to score...Rojas relays and Corky tags him out to bail out Lewis. Carroll given a double on the play. Strange...should've been an E.
Tekotte singles to Heisey, who bobbles it allowing Carroll to score and Tekotte to reach 2nd. E on Heisey.
Johnson walks. 1st & 2nd with 2 down and 1 run in.
Cabrera grounds to Rojas...who also bobbles it. Everybody safe. Defense certainly isn't helping Logan this inning. E on Rojas.
Forsythe pops up over Dorn's head...drops in. 3 run double. 7-3 Pads.
Parrino grounds out to Dorn to end the inning. Ugh.

7-3 Padres. The 2 walks certainly hurt, but Logan did NOT pitch that poorly there. Horrible defensive inning from the Redlegs.

_Sir_Charles_
03-25-2011, 06:25 PM
Chad Qualls in to pitch the bottom of the 7th. 7-3 SD.

PH Mike Costanzo with a leadoff single to right.
PH David Cook flies out to center. I'm not familiar with either Costanzo OR Cook. Anybody know where they're from?
Cairo k's swinging.
Rojas grounds out to 2nd.

_Sir_Charles_
03-25-2011, 06:31 PM

Carroll lines out to 2nd.

_Sir_Charles_

Parrino singles to left. Forsythe scores. Parrino to 2nd on the throw.
Weems up...wild pitch, Parrino to 3rd....single to left center. 10-4 Padres. 4 straight games allowing 10 or more runs.
Guzman grounds out to short.

10-4 heading to the bottom of the ninth.

GOYA
03-25-2011, 06:50 PM
Cook is a 29 year old signee in the off-season. He's been AA-AAA for a few years. Not a lot of reason to look for anything from him

Costanzo is a 27 yr old that was picked up a couple of years ago. Sweet likes him. He seems very average to me. May jump between AA and AAA this season.

_Sir_Charles_
03-25-2011, 06:51 PM
Thanks Goya. I had no clue on either of them.

_Sir_Charles_
03-25-2011, 07:02 PM
Bottom of the 9th. 10-4 SD

Scott Munter pitching

Costanzo hits it hard, but right at the CF'er.
Maloney...Brodie Green PH's....grounds out to short.
Cairo grounds out to mercifully end it. Yuck.

Bad defense, bad pitching, poor baserunning. Hmm...what's the GOOD news....Sappelt 1 for 1, Gomes & Bruce stung the ball, and Billy Bray threw the ball very well. Umm..that's about it folks. Uhhhhh-gly.

Well, at least this team won't appear to be leaving a bunch of good performances in ST. All of the pitchers must be "working on stuff"
