Marty's saying mid 90's, so he's bringing the heat. His stuff looked fine to me, just good hitting IMO.

And a wild pitch as I type that. hehe.

He's throwing hard, but the first one to Weeks looked like it was on a tee. Same good movement, but he can't control it.

Velocity has not been an issue.

There isn't really anything to read into anything. He threw at least two incredibly hittable pitches in that inning. He's trying like heck to throw strikes, but he has no command.

Wild in the zone is bad. Stuff or not.

Rolen has such a great approach at the plate. If he doesn't get what he wants he justs waits for it. After two strikes he begins to fight off anything close. Eventually he walks this time. Great AB! :thumbup:

The rest I agree with, but I think you're misinterpreting a lot of the thread. I don't think any of us are ready to judge the entire season on this game. But Volquez...it's a major cause for concern. He didn't look good when he came back last year, he didn't look good in spring training, and he doesn't look good now.

The skyisnt falling for us, or the Reds, but if Volquez can't command his pitches within the zone, his personal sky will definitely be crashing down in short order.

A division winner can't be featuring a "staff ace" with these results and Walt knows it.

I know. Since that first 4 months when he first came to the Reds, he's had No. 5 starter written all over him, if that. Gotta hope the potential comes true sometime. I also wonder if the surgery is part of the problem.

I am surviving so far with Thom Brennaman on the video feed. He has been intolerable the past couple of years (to the point where if I hear his voice, it's Gameday alone for me); let's hope he's figured out how to pace it with the bloviating this year. I lost hope for his dad already.

Who'd have guessed Garallado would have thrown more pitches thru 4 innings than volquez after the first 2? Still down 2 runs, but the good news is that's its looking likely the Reds will get the soft underbelly of the Brewers bullpen for a couple of innings today. Gotta keep it close, then take advantage of it.

Is anybody up in the pen? Volquez is over 80 pitches. This should DEFINITELY be his last inning. I think the most he's pitched prior to today is about 60 pitches.

In case you didn't watch this team last year...this IS typical. They stay close for 6 or 7 innings and then they explode on the other team's bullpen. ;) As long as our bullpen doesn't give up much, they're always in it until the end. :D
