Surprised as well, but its probably good. Wolf is the kind of cagey vet that might make Francisco look bad. Save JFs starts for the hard throwers who haven't established themsleves and the back end guys that he's already mostly handled at AAA. Rolen will still get plenty of rest that way to stay productive, but JF should be productive in those hand picked situations as well.

If Francisco was going to play third this series, it would have been last night. JF is weaker against lefties and no way was he playing today.

I thought Heisey might have played today instead of Bruce or Stubbs.

Still, a solid lineup today, let's get the sweep.

Well, they've played a total of two games so far and had a day off inbetween those. Plus, like you mentioned, they have a day off tomorrow. Add in the fact it's against a veteran lefty like Wolf, and to be honest, I'd have been surprised if Rolen wasn't in there.

I think I'm more concerned that it's a day game and Arroyo's pitching (with mononucleosis to boot). A couple years back I had a roommate who battled mono, and he was a heaping mess for about a month. I'm hopin' the offense brings the lumber today.

I agree that they should go easy on him...but he's not an invalid. I think he can handle 2 games in a row. Especially considering we've only played 2 up to this point. :O)

Hella weak that this game is not on TV. Epic fail, FSN. This is the first time a lot of people would've had a chance to sit down and watch the Reds. (If they were working on Thursday ... and had something going on last night like a wedding in my case.)

Terrible.

I know you're making light of Bronson's alleged dislike of pitching day games, but when I read that part of his mono is that he wears down through the day, it was clear to me that the day game was best for him. Nice effort today.

From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinal's live blog at the conclusion of the game:

The Brewers lose in ugly fashion, 12-3, to get swept in the season-opening series by the Reds. This isn't exactly how the Brewers envisioned beginning the season. It's only three games but the Reds showed the Brewers you're going to have to play better than this to beat them.

So far, I've missed 2/3 of this wonderful series. I'm in Martinsville, VA with only MLB's At Bat 2011 as my only guide--and RedsZone of course. Too busy to take part in the merriment, but impressed nonetheless.

All that talk about the Brewers being so tough seems to have fizzed because of pitching. That's good. I just heard Lee Spencer of FOX Sports say, "boy the Cardinals suck this year." I said to her, "yep and I'm glad of it." She frowned, but it made my day!

We may never lose (I hope). 162-0, baby!

It's like last year never ended, but there's a new attitude. Same team, but it seems like we expect to win now. Or maybe it's just the fan base. Either way, it could be a deadly combination (in a good way).

I know one thing it's done. I went to 4 games last year, and I'm definitely going to more than that this year. The effect winning early has on ticket sales will be tremendous. Over 105,000 for the opening series is impressive.

Agreed, and this may be it's own thread, but when I went to the game Saturday night there were so many "no brainer" little things that the Reds did right that I just don't think the previous ownership would have explored.

Things like having the fields crew rakes sponsored by Scotts, and the topps Baseball card as the jumbotron photo. The Bottoms Up tap, the improved customer service and on and on and on.

It's not so much that there are things we actually see, but rather there's an absence of things that we don't notice not being missed if that makes sense.
