That combined with the fact that Dusty wants to get some playing time for Heisey. He's played quite well and needs some starts too.

I don't think he's "hot" perse, but he had a fantastic spring where he was swinging the bat very well and in his limited exposure here in the regular season, he's played well. He's only 3 for 11, but with 5 rbi's, 2 walks and a SB....all that combined with well above average defense. Point being, he deserves some playing time.

I will say that when he's hit the ball, he's SMOKED the ball.

Of all our Reds starters (including Homer, Cueto, Leake...even LeCure & Maloney), Volquez is the one I feel most uncomfortable with. I know he's got huge upside, but unless he learns some control (and we've yet to see it during his tenure with the Reds...even when he was going good he was wild), he's going to continue to be "potential".

We've got a plethora of starters who are all up and coming (Leake, Wood and don't forget Chapman)...somebody's going to have to go. He's also the guy with the 1 year contract. He's also the oldest one (besides Bronson).

I'd love to be able to trade him when he's at a HIGH point, but at this point...does anybody see that trend? Does anybody really want to hurt our season letting him "work through it"? If he doesn't have it right now, the big leagues isn't where you work out your kinks. ESPECIALLY when we've got too many starters chomping at the bit (after Cueto & Homer return).

I'll let it go now, I don't want to clutter up the game thread.

Volquez has had a grand total of 1 hard hit ball of him tonight.

He has also had a grand total of three batters getting on base w/o hitting the ball at all. And if heisey doesn't save him on that play, it could be a whole lot worse.

He has been struggling tonight. There is no doubt about that.

He's faced 6 batters in the last two innings.

You mean he struggled in the first inning. And then he settled in. Like he's done in all three of his starts this season.

And if Venable's flubber doesn't barely clear the infield maybe he doesn't give up a run at all.

Only difference between this start and his other two is he minimized the damaged in the damage.
