Regarding Phillips....Per Fay:

Brandon Phillips said just before 3 p.m. via Twitter today: After talking to Dusty, it made me realize how Blessed I am to play for him. He is lookin out for my wellbeing & I love him for that!

Both Cairo & Renteria are playing well. I don't see the need to rush him back. But I can't wait to see him back on the field.

People need to come to grips with this simple fact...these Pirates are NOT that bad. They've got a pretty decent offense going on here.

And their starting pitching has done VERY well thus far.

Yup -- can't give up free passes to teams with substandard talent. Make them hit the baseball. Chances are, because they're the Pirates, they won't be able to.

They'll lose at least 90 games. That sucks.

You do NOT know this. Again, stating opinion as if it were fact.

Morton 2-0, 1.64 ERA
Maholm 0-2, 2.33 ERA
Correia 2-1, 2.70 ERA

These next two have stuggled but I don't think anybody sees them pitching THIS poorly. But you never know.

Ohlendorf 0-0, 7.27 ERA
McDonald, 0-1, 7.47 ERA

If they get pitching, they'll be middle of the division IMO.

I don't think luck has anything to do with this series. When you walk Ronny Cedeno like Volquez did you deserve to lose.

Dink, dunk, dink, dunk.... makes me sick. Anyone else get the feeling the Reds have been very BABIP unlucky on the pitching side this year?

We've certainly had our fair share of them. But IMO, walks have been the crippler for this staff thus far.

Of course, if he hadn't thrown the chin music...he might not have walked him.

As poorly as the pitching has been, its this one thing that's been the Achilles heal thus far. We've allowed the 2nd most walks in the bigs. Only the Mets have allowed more. Until that gets corrected...we'll continue to struggle on the bump. It's got nothing to do with pitching inside or not. It's got to do with pitching IN the zone effectively.

It seems like in almost every game since the 5 game winning streak that the Reds have been playing from behind. Maybe this is selective memory (after looking through previous scores it appears that it may be) but the ways that the Reds have been losing have been incredibly frustrating. Bad pitching, especially early.

Isn't Arroyo the only pitcher to go 7 innings in a start, and he only did that once?

The Reds need better starting pitching as soon as possible. I am grateful that the potential for that is waiting in the wings, rather than being a figment of the imagination.

These radar gun games are getting ridiculous. San Diego messes with their gun so that it adjusts pitches artificially slower by a few MPH, then the Reds jack up the gun here so that it inflates the number. All while MLB shows something entirely different.
