I don't know where to put this, but thru 10 percent of the season, fangraphs has Joey Votto leading the majors in WAR. They have Johnny Gomes at 13th. Now you can't use such a small sample size to project anything, but it tells you how well those 2 have started the season. And a glance by my naked eye shows me Gomes has the lowest BABIP of any player in the top 40 ranked by WAR. Just wanted to mention those 2 guys.

Jonny will always have a low BABIP because all of his outs are pop ups, which have no chance of being hits, whereas groundballs can find holes.

Jonny will always have a low BABIP because all of his outs are pop ups, which have no chance of being hits, whereas groundballs can find holes.

His career BABIP is .295. This season is .206.

His career GB/FB is 0.57. This season is 0.33.

A small sample size no doubt, but given your rebuttal of sorts, I wanted to put those numbers up there. An interesting start to the season for Jonny, for sure.

EVERYBODY SAYS it is nothing to worry about, but Homer Bailey’s third rehab start, scheduled for Friday, has been pushed back two or three days, maybe Sunday in Columbus.

“There is a little soreness (in his shoulder), nothing big and nothing to worry about,” he said. “It feels a little fatigued and an extra couple of days will help.”

Said Baker, “He hasn’t had any setbacks going from 30 to 60 pitches. He just said he is feeling a little fatigued. You want to prevent any setbacks. Sometimes a day or two can make all the difference in the world. To not have any setbacks and give him a couple of extra days is worth it.

“We know we need Homer and we know we need Johnny Cueto,” Baker added. “We need ‘em both. But you can’t rush them and have something happen and you don’t have them for a length of time. We have to let their normal course of healing take over.”

Cueto was scheduled for his third rehab start tomorrow (Thursday), “And knock on wood, we hope we don’t have any setbacks there.”

And of Bailey, Baker added, “He doesn’t seemed too concerned. He seems to know his body pretty well for a young person.”

Not necessarily. Last year's offense led the league in almost every category, yet they also led the league in shutouts. There are nights they will all hit together and nights where they won't at all. You would think they would be a little more consistent but they are streaky with output.

His value as a player is that he's a fantastic defender and a below average bat. For all the complaints on him, he's still hitting right around .300. I wish the same could be said for Hanigan, Bruce & Rolen. Paul isn't the only guy struggling, and yet he's STILL contributing with his glove.

His value isn't coming from other players...but it's not so obvious when others are doing well.

Looks like we're back to 2009 again. Since the offense is sputtering and the pitching has trouble getting out of the first couple of innings, how about a lineup shakeup? Would it hurt to give Heisey a shot in left, Renteria at short and send Hermidia back to the minors? Would it be prudent? Reds are 4-9 since the opening series. With the easy part of the schedule over and a road trip to St. Louis and Milwaukee coming up, we could see the season evaporate before our eyes. And I was just kidding about everything but the Renteria move. We need pop in this lineup and right now, we don't have it.

Maybe 2010 was just a dream...

I would agree that maybe some shake up is in order, but what I've seen of Reteria's defense makes me cringe. The team's in trouble if you have to count on the SS spot offense anyway. The biggest problems I see come from 3B and RF. Very few good AB's from either of those 2 and they're hitting in the middle of the order. And a very passive approach on the bases when guys like Stubbs get on base.
