From the blog...

Volquez was slated to next pitch on Wednesday at Milwaukee, so there will obviously be a change there coming eventually. Stay tuned.

Volquez has a 29.25 ERA in the first inning this season and a 1.93 ERA over the rest of the game. Over his first four starts, he combined to throw 128 pitches in the first inning and allowed 12 hits, 8 walks and 13 runs.

The Reds are looking for their first series win at Busch Stadium since a three-game sweep from June 5-7, 2006. Since then, they are 0-10-1 in the last 11 series here.

This will be the 21st time the Reds appear on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball. They are 7-13 in those games. The last time they played in the evening on Sunday was 5/8/05 vs. the Dodgers, a 9-3 loss. The last Sunday night win was a 3-0 victory over the Cubs on 8/13/00.

This is Volquez at his best. You can't worry about the hits -- when you give up a lot grounders, you're going to get some bad stretches of balls finding holes. But he's throwing strikes, keeping the ball off the plate, and keeping batted balls on the ground.

Basestealers now 11-11 vs Hanigan this year.

Pitchers or Hanigan?

Hard to throw runners out when the pitch is a change up.

My son had the same problem as a hitter and got the same results. It's hard to get them to listen when told, too. Jay gets away from that and like a golfer (like me), he just goes back to bad habits and the result is usually an Oh-fer.
