Here's the lineup per Fay in Landscape fashion. Another day game at 12:30 today. This is the 2nd of five straight day games. The Reds are going back in time to when every game was played during the day.
I'm looking forward to seeing what Bailey can do. :beerme: here's to a great outing for him today. The game is on TV today too.

Heisey 8, Renteria 6, Votto 3, Phillips 4, Bruce 9, Gomes 7, Hanigan 2, Janish 5, Bailey 1.

Nice outing by Homey against the AAA Astros.

Don't sell them short. The astros offense is pretty decent. Limited homerun punch...but better than average IMO.

6th in league runs scored
3rd in league team batting average
9th in league OPS

Much better than a AAA club. And that with Carlos Lee really struggling once again.

Not really. Range wise, sure. But Renteria's never even played third before (other than a few times trying it during spring training). Janish at least has some experience at it. I think we're just going to have to accept the fact that Edgar is limited to pinch hitting, playing short and second. That's it.

Switching from SS to 3rd is such an easy adjustment. Even in season.

I think it's easy to the fan's eyes. Quite different from the players perspective. Balls get to you MUCH quicker at third. It's a different angle off the bat, you've got to have much better range moving forward. I'm not saying it can't be done...but it's not as cut and dry as some make it out to be. And every player is different. It's harder for some guys to change and adapt further along in their career.

If you want to get Edgar to move, then he's got to work on it prior to the games...not during. Just my 2 cents.

It's not that much different. It is fairly cut and dry. It's about pride and um.....pride. ER's a WS MVP after all, of course he still thinks he's the superior SS.

Don't get me wrong. I agree with you that he "should" be able to do it. But I think you're making quite the leap there saying it's pride and him not wanting to do it for that reason. He did give it a go during ST. Simply put, he told Dusty that he does NOT feel comfortable there. Given time...I'm sure he could, but Paul's better at third than he'd be I'm sure. (of course he's better at short too...but Renteria's got to play SOMETIME).

I can't believe I'm defending Renteria over Janish.

Keep in mind also that the jury still is very much out on whether or not Janish ultimately will be anything more than a utility infielder. Whether you agree with it or not, when it's an arguable decision like this one (not arguing who is better -- just that ultimately, one will be at SS and one at third and at the end of the day ... so what?), I think not only is it OK for Dusty to defer to a respected vet like Renteria over a maybe-never-will-be like Janish, it's smart.

Yes, and I honestly think that Renturia tried 3b and just does not feel comfortable. It's not about pride (Renturia is willing to play 2b).
I would think that Renturia would love to grab some of Cario's playing time at 3b if he could. I think we should applaud Renturia for admiting he can't play 3b. I imagine if he volunteered to play 3b and ended up playing EdE defense, Redszone would not be very understanding at all.

Obviously, Dusty is not going to force Renturia to play 3b if he says he can't do it. That's not Dusty's style (thank goodness, Dusty is not Jerry Narron).

Hanigan has 2 hr, 11 rbi and is hitting .246/.313/.393/.707

But without today (3 for 4, 3 rbi) and his 2 homer day against the Brewers in the 3rd game of the year (4 for 4, 4 rbi), he'd be at...

0 hr, 4 rbis and hitting .150. Thank goodness for those 2 games.

Btw...those are his ONLY mulit-hit games all season long. I know people are complaining about Gomes' struggles...but I don't think ANYBODY has been struggling more than Hanigan.

Yeah, I noticed this too. I had stepped away when it happened and the posts and Marty made it sound like it was all Paul's fault. Almost ZERO chance of bunting that ball. He had to dive across the plate and ended up falling down he was reaching so far for it. Just bad luck there.
