Read on his twitter today a young fan of his asked if he wanted to attend his game tonight. On short notice, BP tweeted back the following:

DatDudeBP Brandon Phillips
What time and where? RT @CEcholzz: @DatDudeBP should really come watch the 14u Cincy flames in West Chester tonight

DatDudeBP Brandon Phillips
I think I just might check out my #BPFansShawty @CEcholzz today! See you there!!!!

DatDudeBP Brandon Phillips
At WCBC watching my #BPFansShawty @CEcholzz go HAM!!! So far RBI single, double, and 2 Runs! @MLB I'm witnessing the next big thing...

DatDudeBP Brandon Phillips
My #BPFansShawty @CEcholzz had a great game! 3-5! Single, 2 doubles, 3 RBI, 3 runs & #Winning

and then tweeted this pic:

He doesn't know this kid, but just because the kid said he was a fan and asked if he wanted to come, BP was all over it. Even met him and his parents after the game. More players should follow his lead.

Very cool. Those kids had to be freakng out when they saw him there. This is the kind of thing baseball needs to do to promote itself. Unfortunately the sport seems to be dying amongst the younger generations.

I have a feeling most players would rather be hanging out at home or in their hotel room on an off day, maybe a bar. BP is awesome for doing stuff like this.

Imagine how good that kid must feel about those last two tweets. He's got a gold glover calling him "the next big thing", ala Jay Bruce.

Brandon is a stand up dude

I used to think Brandon loved to play baseball. I have come to realize it goes a lot further than that- Brandon loves life.

Not really a story, just quoting some of BP's tweets and a twitpic :)

But I wish someone would report on things like this, it's good for the game.

Love this. I'll admit to not being Phillips' biggest fan a few years back, but the guy has certainly grown on me. He really seems like a great guy.

I gotta learn to tweet so I can ask Phillips if he'll come help me clean out my gutters and buy me a pony

BP needs to be at the forefront of marketing for MLB as a whole. The guy has personality coming out his ears, plays with heart and style, and fans love the guy.

Nicely done, BP

Cool stuff, especially on the eve of the Cardinals series. Between the spectacular defense, stuff like this, and all around good attitude, I want this guy in Cincinnati for years to come. :beerme:

this is awesome, saying BP is the man is an understatement. Kudos to the kid having a good game, cause if it was me knowing BP was there to watch me i would probably have done awful lol

It baffles me that people, even Reds fans, can actually dislike the guy.

I like Phillips, and his competetiveness. But I wouldn't say he qualifies as a class act quite yet.

At Season Ticket Photo Day, he was as accomodating as possible even though there was some "suit" pushing him on.

Best person on the team. No one better in the game today at taking care of his fans then BPhil. Always has a smile and having fun, isnt that what the game is supposed to be about?
