I do wonder how much more leash Gomes has left. I know Dusty likes to be patient with guys, and it payed off with Bruce & Stubbs last year, but at some point its got to be a detrament to the mental health of the team every time they look at the lineup card and see Gomes penciled in at this point.

Not sure what it's going to take to get him out of the lineup permanently, but facing Big Z might be another step in that direction.

I'd sayit is more detrimental to the mental health of the posters than to the team. It's likely that they want to see him start hitting.

As a fan I don't even know how to go about rooting for Gomes.I really hope he turns it around but I don't think he's going to.At this point I think Gomes is at the short end of his rope so another bad night or two could mean the end of him being the everyday guy.Not that I hoping for it yet but I'd be willing to bet that a few really bad ABs and an 0-5 night would get him out of the lineup for tomorrows game.I wouldn't have guessed that a month ago so I guess that's progress.

Those are some nice batting averages the Cubbies have up to Byrd. Soriano is the only lower one but he's got the power to offset it.

Of course the bottom of the order is horrendous.

Actually, I thought Homer pitched pretty well in the 6th. Byrd just hit a good pitch...Pena was the only mistake pitch. The rest of the inning he was fine. He only went to 107 pitches about 10 pitches more than his last outing. Also, rightfully he's the one in line for the win now. :D
