Stubbs 8
Phillips 4
Votto 3
Bruce 9
Renteria 6
Lewis 7
Cairo 5
Hanigan 2
Leake 1

I get the Rolen off day, but Renteria batting 5th? Really? For this game only, I would keep Gomes riding his hot streak one more day and hit 5th tonight, if they're not gonna put Hernandez or Rolen in there today.

Renteria hitting 5th. Yeesh. I actually like Cairo in there more than Rolen currently.

For what's it's worth, Renteria is 4-10 with an homer against Marcum. Dusty does love stats like that.

Yes he does. But that still doesn't change the fact that he's you know, Edgar Renteria. Sometimes I love Dusty, sometimes I just shake my head. Hopefully Edgar proves Dusty right.

Remember when Cairo hit cleanup the other day, giving rise to heart palpitations throughout Reds Nation? Then he smacked around Cliff Lee?

No reason to get worked up.

I do remember, and I made negative comments about it then. Every time I criticize one of Dusty's lineups it piles up runs. No need to change a pattern that works for me!

Seems to happen like that quite a bit with Dusty's version of the platoon. If Renteria is 1 for 2 off someone with a double he gets to play. I'm not sure it matters which SS plays but it would be nice to just pick one and go for two weeks.

I really hope it was a mental thing with Volquez and he comes back after another start or two and pitches at least close to his potential. Get Volquez going, keep Homer healthy, acquire Jose Reyes, win World Series haha.

I'm pretty concerned with Arroyo right now.
If the Reds actually did add Reyes a Heisey/Lewis platoon would be fine in LF.
St. Louis will hit rough stretches just like the Reds have right now.

Hard not to be impressed with this Milwaukee team. The OPS numbers for their first 6 hitters are extremely good. I wouldn't trade Votto or Bruce for anybody they have, but their lineup is significantly better than ours. And they've got much better starting pitching. Even their fifth guy, Narveson, would look good in our rotation. This team did what it had to do in the offseason and they are going to give the Cardinals a real run for the division. As of the moment, they're a whole lot better than us, it pains me to say.

I'd say they've got better hitters and better starting pitching. I think our bullpen is better and our defense is far superior. If we have Bailey and Volquez pitches his best, we are a better team. At the moment, we don't have those things. :dunno:

Strongly disagree.

Our catchers are better.
Votto is better than Fielder.
Phillips is better than Weeks.
Betancourt=Janish/ Renteria on offense, but I'd take Janish on defense.
Rolen/Cairo = MacGhee/Counsell at 3rd. (Edge to Brewers on offense given age of their 3rd basemen)
Gomes/Heisey/Lewis are not anywhere near Braun in left.
Stubbs is better than Morgan in center.
Bruce is better than Hart in right.

That puts Reds up on 5 positions, 2 equal, 1 Brewers. If you give them 3rd base, then 2 Brewers.

Their pitching is better now. But once they get situated I still like our rotation. Bailey/Cueto/Volquez/Leake/Arroyo and Wood will get it turned around. Plus I like our bullpen better. My bet is that come October, we are on top.

A very good win. The Reds needed a series win after an awful road trip. They need to build on this and win the next two series against very winnable teams,Dodgers and Cubs.
I guess I gave up last night too. I usually set my DVR for the last few innings as I normally can't stay up and watch the entire game during the week. I didn't do that last night. Oh well maybe that's the key. If I don't set my DVR then they win.
