Dodgers 1st:

Carroll walks
Miles doubles, Carroll holds at 3rd
Eithier sac flies Carroll in.
Kemp HRs to left.
Blake pops out to shallow center.
Sands Ks looking.

Dodgers up 3-0 after half an inning.

As Brantley was saying, why the heck don't the Reds pitch around Kemp?

14 innings, 7 Ks, 6 walks.... seems like he's been trying to pound the zone but that's not really getting major command of his stuff. He probably can't pound the zone in the majors.

6 walks and 7 Ks in 14 AAA innings is NOT pounding the zone. Many AAA hitters swing at anything...I know for a fact he struck out a guy on a wild pitch in the first inning of one of his starts. It was the third out and they got a run before the fourth out. :bang:

It's strange, because you would normally think good athletes would make good outfielders, but it's like he has no defensive instincts at all.

Of course, the Reds have had good athlete/poor OF types before:

Alex Johnson
George Foster
Kal Daniels
Adam Dunn (different kind of athlete, but still...)

Dodgers 3rd:

Carroll flies out to Bruce.
Ethier 'doubles' on a catchable fly to shallow left that Lewis ran back on at first. Gomes would have had that. Terrible play by Lewis.
Kemp is intentionally walked.
Blake slaps a single into right, Ethier holds at 3rd. Bases juiced.
Sands Ks looking.
Barajas doubles down the left field line, Ethier and Kemp score.
Loney walked intentionally.
Billingsley walks, forcing a run in.
Carroll flies out to right.

Middle of the 3rd, Reds 3, Dodgers 7.

Wood now up to 78 pitches, 44 strikes. (After 3!)

Agreed. I don't think Heisey is a long-term solution as a starter, but I do think he is a quality fourth OF (sort of a Tracy Jones from 1986-87 with a pleasant attitude), and part of being a good fourth OF is stepping in and starting for a period of time when needed.

You know, guys and gals, this team is slowly going down the tubes because of pitching. Who would have thought that on March 31? The starters can't go 6 good (with the notable exception of Arroyo and Leake lately), the bullpen is up and down--mostly down lately, and every pitcher the other guys throw at us baffles our big bats. Now we head for the left coast soon which will IMHO be a challenge. Can't I get any good news?
