The leaguewide motto when playing the Cubs should be:

Just put the ball in play and enjoy the circus.

My word, they really suck.

Woah, come on now. He walks people too!

Volquez is the pitching counterpart of Adam Dunn. Three true outcomes...

A team doesn't even have to put the ball in play for the circus to start. Starting a conversation with a Cub should be enough...starting a conversation involving two or more Cubs is the potential for a firestorm.

I thought both were strikes but the first one had a ton of late break and dropped into the zone right at the end. Thought it was a strike but wasn't surprised at all to see it called a ball.

I agree with this too. But I still think he deserves an extended look. After all of Gomes' struggles...he's never really gotten a week or 2 steady. Lewis got more starts than Heisey did after they pulled Gomes. I haven't looked, but it felt like considerably more than Chris.

In the last two seasons, he's been a better baseball player than Jonny Gomes. It's not a lock that it will continue, but he's earned the chance to find out.

The thought of somebody being able to hit off the bench and not as a starter is laughable.

His production is also ridiculously weighted vs the Pirates.

With the game scoreless in the sixth inning, Harper hit a home run to right-center field and took a few seconds to admire his handiwork from the batters' box before slowly tossing his bat aside and heading to first.

Greensboro pitcher Zachary Neal apparently didn't care for Harper's display and let Harper know how he felt as he rounded the bases, according to media reports. Harper replied by puckering up in Neal's direction as he reached home plate.

On Harper's next trip to the plate, with Hagerstown trailing 3-2 in the eighth, Greensboro relief pitcher Grant Dayton backed Harper off the plate with a high and inside first pitch. Harper connected with the second, but his long fly ball was caught at the fence.

Why burn Wood's option. Volquez & Leake have already used this year. I'd be fine with either of them going back. I think Leake will have more consistent success of the 3...but he could also use the experience in the minors the most I'd say. I'd give Travis a few more starts before we make that call. As for Volquez...he could certainly use more time to fine tune his control....if that's possible.
