The more I think about it, the more I think Matt Kemp is tailor made for our lineup. If you replaced Gomes with Kemp that would be a scary lineup, but I'd move Rolen down one slot to put Kemp right behind The Bruce. I think he makes $7mil this year, so I'd hope we could at least afford him for half a season. Also, playing left field instead of center might help him with the hammy troubles he's been having this season.

It is very frustrating to watch the Reds run out mediocre players when they have guys in AAA who in all likelihood are better. Its not like Cozart would replace a slumping Hanley Ramirez. He would replace either Janish or Renteria.

He would replace either Janish or Renteria. If they thought Cozart was ready, he'd be playing in Cincy. He's only tapping at the door...not really knocking it down. Every time I see Boston put up a 14, 15 or 16 spot, it cracks me up when some talk aboout Cincy's offense and how they are #1 in runs scored.

The numbers may have been there in order to make that claim earlier this season, but there's no way that they ever had the best offense in baseball. There is a huge gap.

The number 5 hitter has a .671 OPS. Number 6 is at .737 and number 7 is at .589 and those are the best offensive options for those defensive spots on the 25 man roster. I get that the pitching needs to get better and its near the bottom, but this offense will not find the number 5 hitter it needs from within.

For the last half inning Valentine was enjoying making fun of how Votto holds runners on first, with a slight mention that Pujols (winner of multiple gold gloves) holds runners on the same way. If I recall, I believe that Joey actually learned that from Pujols.

It was a boneheaded move on the basepaths by Volquez (not advancing the first time and then getting picked off the second time)...but I'll take a start like that from him every time out. Keep the walks down, limit the damage. He's never be an ace until he can show more command, but an outing like that at least keeps our team in it. Quality start or not.

Oh well, still over .500, but too many games like this that should have been wins.

Agreed. Managerial brain fart. Twice he's used Arrendondo and twice we've lost. You'd think he'd learn, but I guess you can't teach an old dog anything or so it seems.

I supported Dusty when everyone else wanted to tar and feather him, but this season he just makes wrong move after wrong move in pitching situations. He should have used his usual rotation, but in the gack of his mind, I know he was saving them for LA, never thinking that he had to win this one first. Now, he's lost this one unless there's a miracle and he still has to use those pitchers because he wants to use his new toy that has proven to everyone that he can't throw strikes excpet in certain situations.

I suppose in a generic sense, we should be happy to win 2 out of 4 in San Francisco. We have certainly done worse.

However, given that we outscored the Giants 18-9 in the series, that we got 4 out of 4 quality starts, and that the Giants have four of their eight opening day position players on the DL ( Sandoval, Belt, Posey, and now Sanchez), we really should have won 3 out of 4 in this series.

We left too many on base, hit zero homers, and had poor bullpen work. All in all, I am not satisfied. With the Brewers and Cardinals in front of us by four to five games, this will be a dogfight. We simply need to play better and win these series.

Just a horribly mediocre team. Too many holes to go on a run.True. A banger in left and a shortstop would go a long way toward fixing things.
