Dusty really putting his foot on the throat of the Dodgers today, aggresively going for the sweep.

Perhaps Heff invited all the regulars to the mansion last night to celebrate last season's division title w/ Chaz. therefor all hungover starters get the day off. Brandon doesn't drink, Rolen is the savy Vet that knows how to handle his liquor and Votto is the Canadian who laughs at the weak beers served in the grotto.

Hannigan is told to suck it up after getting most of last night off.

Stubbs was going to get the day off, and Bruce is probably out because he's injured. Janish/Renteria is almost the same thing.

Now I know why the Reds never sweep a series.
I hope Bruce isn't hurt but he may be since he's out of the lineup too.
Maybe the Dodgers will rest Etheir & Kemp?

Stubbs was going to get the day off, and Bruce is probably out because he's injured. Janish/Renteria is almost the same thing.

Dusty was quoted as saying Bruce's bat was looking slow so he was giving him today off too. I think it was in Fay or Sheldon's notes from last night....

Found it:

*Jay Bruce is not off as a result of the home plate contact he had with Rod Barajas last night. He is 2-for-20 on the road trip.

“I see him fouling off pitches now and slowing down a little bit from being so hot,” Baker said. “I remember Ted Williams said that most guys go into a little tailspin because they’re running the bases a lot.”

Bruce still had a whole bunch of scrapes on his right shin after getting the business end of Barajas’ shin guard.

“I’m fine. It didn’t feel great,” Bruce said. “If you’ve ever slipped a pedal on your bike into your shin, that’s what it was like. It hurt a lot in the beginning but it wears off.”

I read in Fay's blog that both teams are wearing throwback uniforms today. The Reds will be wearing 1944 vintage uniforms in honor of it being Joe Nuxhall's debut in MLB.

IIRC those uniforms were designed just to be worn during night games (due to weak lighting back then (the common belief was that shiny uniforms showed better... look at the 1936 Reds red pants combo)

They were also made out of satin... the players hated them

Trust me, I remember the homer in Houston well, but I remember the homer in St. Louis even better. I just don't like the sacrifice bunt. Especially considering that Travis can run and isnt likely to hit into a double play. I want Leake and Wood to swing it whenever they are up except for when we have to play for just one run.

One of the problems I've figured is that the pitchers who can swing the bat a little bit like Wood, Leake, and to a lesser extent Bronson, are also the ones who are most likely to get a successful sacrifice down.

The reason is obvious, but it creates some odd strategy decisions at times.

Is it time to think that if Bailey ever gets right that Wood is the guy to send down. I keep on thinking he's going to turn it around, but he just has not had consistent results this year. I think we need Bailey in the rotation and considering that we're not going to send down Cueto or Arroyo and Volquez and Leake have pitched better consistently, I would have to say that right now Wood would have to be the one sent down.

And we're sending guys to the minors (Volquez, Leake, Chapman) to work things out with the minor league coaches. If Wood goes that's 3/5 of the rotation and a key member of the bullpen that aren't getting the coaching assistance that they need with the big club.

"Not to be a negative nancy, but I wouldn't be surprised at all to see the Dodgers come back in this one."

It's official... you're negative Nancy....

Add in the lineup complaint, and I very well might be today ;).

Odd that I would choose a 7-1 game to complain, but I just feel like the Reds have caught some great breaks today.

Camera went on Hanigan just in time to watch him pick his nose.

5th BB of the day for Wood. 105 pitches. Off day tomorrow. Just saying.

Laser to SS, goes 6-4-3, but somehow Gwynn is called safe. BP was in no hurry there, and it cost the Reds the call.

1st, pitch, FC to Phillips, inning over.

They didn't show a replay. I think they had him.

That might go down as the ugliest, yet somehow most gratifying quality start of the year lol

Dodger broadcast showed it. They got him. Wasn't even that close.

Gomes can make a career defensive highlight from todays game.

Reds broadcvast didn't show a good replay of it. Boo to them because I sure thought he was out by half a step. Would have loved to have seen a definitive replay

I've never seen Dodger Stadium look "so sad". But all I care about is Vin Scully. I hope this period they're going through doesn't hasten his retirement

Hmmmmm....Marty just now said that the Cards are mentioned in two rumors. Reyes from Mets and Heath Bell from Pads.

After watching the last 7 games, it's easy to see why so many west coast pitchers have such nice ERA's.

Watch that lineup put up about eight runs this afternoon, LOL

See, Heather, you are too optimistic - it was only seven.

Of course. Sigh.I heard that. Not sure what his source is, but I'm of the impression that the Cards don't have the youngsters to package. They probably have cash depending on their plans with Albert, but what can they send either of those teams' way that will get a deal done, that is without blowing up the major league roster.

And this is the only type of sweeping that I really enjoy. WOOT!

Gomes makes the play of the game with that diving catch to save at least two runs. If he doesn't make it this is a close game.
Renteria shouldn't play SS again. He just can't make plays anymore. He's made about 10 errors in limited playing time at SS.
Dodgers are just a bad team right now and probably not getting any better. I kinda feel bad for Mattingly being in this situation.
