Weather stinks up and down the East Coast ... they should get the game in tonight, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's a delay or two.

I love the lineup. Love, love, love it! I'm looking forward to watching this series. My only real beef w/ interleague is the DH should be used in NL parks and pitchers hit in AL parks (to show the fans the difference).

Go Rojos!

Okay, that's just depressing. The '70 world series was 41 years ago. Fourty one. *sigh* I'm old.

_Sir_Charles_
06-24-2011, 07:08 PM
Not exactly the perfect start. 3 strikes looking. Heisey sits back down.

_Sir_Charles_
06-24-2011, 07:09 PM
Phillips grounds out to 2nd. 2 down.

_Sir_Charles_
06-24-2011, 07:10 PM
Votto pops out to Luke Scott. 1-2-3.

Well, Volquez heading to the mound. Color me NERVOUS.

3 ball counts to both batters. Frustrating. He may get the results, but he drives me batty.

Adam Jones K's. On the change up. Something it seems like Volquez hasn't thrown very often.

_Sir_Charles_
06-24-2011, 07:22 PM
Can you guys imagine just how nasty Volquez would be if he would consistently get ahead of hitters? Another 3 ball count.

How many pitches so far?

_Sir_Charles_
06-24-2011, 07:24 PM
24 pitches. 12 strikes 12 balls. The ratio I've come to expect.

HeatherC1212
06-24-2011, 07:25 PM
Edinson can NOT walk Vlad. That's a very bad sign tonight. The O's will swing if you throw strikes but if you don't and walk the wrong guy, you will be hurting. STOP WALKING GUYS.

BTW-I am SO GEEKED over this series! My two fave teams playing in one of my fave cities. I wish I was there right now but things didn't work out. Don't get me wrong though...I'm a Reds fan this weekend! ;)

_Sir_Charles_
06-24-2011, 07:26 PM
K on another change up. No damage done...except to my nerves.

I think I should let somebody else do the PBP. I hate negativity...and it's hard for me to avoid with Volquez.

27 pitches. 14 strikes, 13 balls. No hits, 2 bb's, 2 k's.

Why do the Orioles bat Mark Reynolds 8th? .351/.462 8th?

I don't get it.

HeatherC1212

I'm here SC! No negativity tonight unless Edinson really screws something up, LOL

Love the black uniforms on the O's. :)

Why do the Orioles bat Mark Reynolds 8th? .351/.462 8th?

I don't get it.

He strikes out a ton and hasn't really been hitting as well this year. He was hitting higher earlier in the season.

BTW-If you have any O's questions, please don't hesitate to ask me. I'm happy to help out if I can. I never get to talk about the O's here! I'll be in the game threads all weekend. :)

It has been a while! I get busy in the evenings and don't have time to stop by much but really its been too negative for me on the board lately. It's just hard to jump in sometimes when folks can't find anything good. This series is one I've been looking really forward to all year though so I plan to be here for all three games. I missed you too! :)

HeatherC1212
06-24-2011, 07:36 PM
The strike zone seems to be jumping around a bit but maybe that's just me. Hopefully the second time through the order helps the Reds figure this guy out. He's really not one of the O's better pitchers.

BTW-I'm mad bummed we won't see Britton this weekend, their rookie LHP who's been turning heads this year. He's really good and it would have been fun to see what Joey and Jay could do against him. :)

_Sir_Charles_
06-24-2011, 07:37 PM
I just now noticed that the O's backup catcher is Craig Tatum. Cool.

HeatherC1212
06-24-2011, 07:38 PM

I didn't see the play, but IMO the one who deserves to be fined is Volquez. There is ONE thing and ONE THING only that I demand from my pitchers....limit the walks. When you've got one of the best defensive clubs out there, it's even MORE of an imperative. My god, go with the approach of pitching to contact. With his stuff, he'll still get the swing and misses. Just play catch. Hit the freaking MITT!

EV slouch walks off the mound after that DP. This guy is a disgrace. He never high-fives his fielders after good plays, never even looks like he's bothered by his eternal failure.

Didn't the Rangers once impose a rule that he had to be off the mound and in the dugout in less than 20 seconds or something?

That's because he doesn't. That doesn't mean he doesn't "pitch" or he just "throws." Volquez just doesn't have any control and he rarely has and he'll probably never have it consistently. Control is a skill. It's not an attitude, it's not effort, it's not hair, it's not who gets off the mound first, it's a skill.

Ok then....His pitching stinks. He should have been the one going down again instead of Wood. His attitude and mannerisms are just icing on the cake.

I loved Mario Soto....and I hated when people got on him for some of his blow ups. Did not mean they were not right when it reflected badly on the team. In comparison however....I would take Soto results from EV ..even with his attitude...but since the main point for you is his pitching... he cannot even come close to that.

At least Travis Wood's indifference doesn't cost the team in other ways, as Volquez does.

See: SF when Volquez advanced only from first to second on a sure double, and then later gets doubled off second because he wasn't paying attention.

See: Toronto with the lazy balks

Saying he ripped his offense in a post about being indifferent is about as contradicting of a statement as you'll find. There's some fire and passion for you baby! Gotta love it!

Bruce said they were going to get on a roll.

They all said this is the game that could turn things around after the NY blow out.

I think they are trying to make themselves believe. I think Walt remains calm beacuse he does not feel MIL will run away with it and STL will not last too long w/o Albert.

No, I became an O's fan in 2005 when I saw my O's fave, Brian Roberts, in the All Star game and they were kind of surprising people that year which was really fun. I also liked their players (most of whom are now gone but I know their minor leagues a bit too so the players are still faves of mine) and the fact that they were like the Reds...struggling to have a winning season...for a long time.
