Here are the lineups per Fay. Looks like Hanigan is still hurting. Could we see Mesoraco if he isn't well soon?

Lewis 7, Phillips 4, Votto 3, Rolen 5, Bruce 9, Gomes DH, Hernandez 2, Stubbs 8, Janish 6, Volquez RHP.

I didn't know anything was wrong with Hanigan. Doesn't Hernandez usually catch Volquez?

Hanigan is starting. Fay Fayl.

They said Hanny had an injured lat if I recall correctly. But they said he wouldn't be out very long which makes me think they won't bother to DL him....hence, no Mesoraco. Just an assumption on my part of course.

~edit~ Yep, it looks like they corrected the lineup and Hanny is starting. And of course I just now saw Homer's post. :O) Nevermind, nothing to see here. Move along.

Corrected Reds lineup. He said the wrong was sent out. Yea, sure....

Can't believe Rolen is in there on a day game after a night game. He must have taken an extra dose of geritol this morning.

Lewis 7, Phillips 4, Votto 3, Rolen 5, Bruce 9, Gomes DH, Hanigan 2, Stubbs 8, Janish 6, Volquez RHP.

Off day tomorrow.

True. But they usually don't miss an opportunity to give him two days off in a row. I'm glad he's in there. He's going to need to start playing more of these games for the Reds to have optimum offense in the 2nd half.

Not sure I completely understand why Marty had to be so critical, but I guess it's just Marty being Marty. Shields is tough to run on and that was his 8th pickoff of the year.

I can't speak for everybody, but I am down on Janish not just because of today, but because of his disappointing season. I did not expect a sub 600 OPS bat. As for the small sample sizes of Phillips and Bruce, both have been producing lately Bruce with a jack last night. While Stubbs may be disappointing, his OPS is still above 700.

I think the frustration isn't as much about performance today as it is about performance over the entire season. While those three have certainly been disappointing today, Janish has disappointed at the plate on a consistent basis.

Personally, I'm much more annoyed with the poor performance of those three than with Janish, because I'm simply at the point where I don't expect Janish to do anything but make outs. I expect those three to be much better.

Edit: We should probably say Stubbs is 0-2, since Dusty took the bat out of his hands in his last plate appearance.

Janish is 16 for 65 (.246 ba)
Stubbs is 23 for 93 (.247 ba)
Bruce is 19 for 84 (.226 ba)

I don't see the pouncing on the other guys like I do Janish. Just about every player on the roster has had periods of them being brutal at the dish. Janish more than most. I understand your frustration, I really do. A barrage of negativity really gets under my skin. However, I think the threads are doing a good job of not raining the negativity on Stubbs and Bruce, because overall, their numbers are pretty good, or in Stubbs' case, at least acceptable. People aren't piling on them just because they've had a bad month, which is what really would frustrate me. Janish has been bad all year, so I understand the growing complaints. If Bruce had posted a .670 OPS all year like he has in June (something around .670, unsure of what it is exactly), I expect that the complaints would be piling up, as they rightfully should.

Edit: I should point out that I really like Janish. It's a borderline man-crush, because I really love watching good defense, especially guys with rocket arms. His offense has really disappointed me, though.

I agree. I wasn't trying to just point out Janish...just the general pouncing attitude in the game threads, he was just the most recent target. And from my point of view, in a game thread I tend to look at their performance in THAT game...not their season-wide performance.
