This is my third time starting the game thread and I am currently 0-2 here's to hoping that the third time is a charm. :beerme:

First thoughts on the line-up is I don't like seeing Renteria there nor above Hanigan. At least he's not hitting above Stubbs.

Let's hope Lewis continues his hot streak and continue to earn starts against right-handed starters.

I can only imagine Dusty is thinking Bronson gives up enough fly balls that shortstop may not get that much action, so he is hoping Edgar can get a few knocks. Of course I don't really agree with that thinking, but probably what Dusty feels.

And he may have been on third if he didn't try running on one of the better arms in the league.

Frustrating sequence of events. We run out of a good inning with an unecessary CS, Votto swings weakly at a first pitch ends up a DP, and then Arroyo decides to take a concentration snooze on a 0-2 pitch.

In the old days Bronson would be out of this game. Huge letdown with this outing.

Let's face it, after Cueto and Leake Reds just have a bad rotation which is killing them this year. Not a winning rotation.

I agree with Welsh about the lack of "magic" on the team. Last year, they were ahead early in the game. This year there always behind and typically by more than one run. Last year, they seemed to always get the key base hit or defensive gem. This year they can't buy a run late or in extra innings. Very frustrating to watch because they'll still do just enough to stay in the hunt.

Fox Trivia question is..."What 3 players have been named Ohio Cup MVP?"

Even if I knew that, I wouldn't admit it. Then again I didn't realize there actually was an "Ohio cup" until before this game - which is apparently just an opportunity for a corporate sponsor to print their logo on something and get some air time.

Sorry for the interruption, back to the 8-1 drubbing....

Chapman looks like he's back on the horse. Missed some targets, a few badly, but was throwing nice easy 98-99 gas. I haven't seen him get a slider over for a strike in what seems like months though.

That Arroyo contract is god, god awful.

At this pace, they're paying Bronson Arroyo for 2.5 wins above replacement and getting replacement level lol

So yeah... they could have used Sam LeCure to do the same thing Arroyo is doing and saved $12 million.

It's darned if they do, darned if they don't. I understood the logic behind the signing, but I've been wary all along they would not get the type of production from him going forward to justify the cost.
