In his defense, he made it clear to everyone concerned that he was more comfortable hitting lower in the lineup.

Of course, CF = leadoff hitter in Baker's simplistic view.

But his stark refusal to attempt more than one bunt per month is completely on him. That and his pathetic inability/unwillingness to protect the plate down 0-2 and 1-2.

Of course, he's always down 0-2 or 1-2.

I'm not really interested in witnessing Stubbs fan countless more times.

Even with all that speed and power, it's going to take him approximately 700 PA to score 100 runs. Not worth a LTC, IMO.

Stubbs is hitting .237 against right handed pitching and .330 against left handed pitching. Why is this such a mystery? Its called platooning, its called playing the percentages. This is not rocket science.

Exactly.

Only to Baker is the concept rocket science.

One and one-half. More. Years.

Reggie never stuck out like Stubbs

The most reggie every struck out was 137 times in 1998

Stubbs is at 114 NOW and on pace for 220 this season

I'd trade Stubbs, Alonso, and Grandal to LA for Kemp. That's 3 former #1 picks for a stud. They get quality youth, and we get our 4-hole hitter.

Some of you folks need a big refresher on Bakermetrics. I will employ my buddy Texasdave as an adjunct lecturer. Classes shall commence forthwith.

Speaking of career splits...Gomes falls off the charts vs. RHP.

I know the point was hammered here over the winter...that he should only start against LHP. But when you look at the numbers you really have to wonder if Baker ever does (other than particular match-ups). From his own statements it's clear he likes to divine those on a day-to-day basis. Platooning is somehow beneath him.

I don't care what the apologists say, a manager does make a difference, and it's partly why the Reds are a .500 team right now.

He's at it again.

Down 8-1 to the Cardinals in the 7th, runners on second and third, two out. 1-2 count.

Strike three looking.

Completely inexcusable.

I can only hope Marty is going off.

Or you let them learn how it hit, like the Yankees did with O'Neil

There is a reason some scouts said that Stubbs would never hit.

I think we're seeing it now.

Lefty on the hill tonight and Stubbs didn't sniff contact.
