We have a lineup.

Heisey CF
Renteria SS
Votto 1B
Phillips 2B
Bruce RF
Rolen 3B
Lewis LF
Hanigan C
Arroyo P

v. Westbrook

Jake Westbrook, RHP
7-4, 4.92 ERA
Westbrook hopes he found something in his most recent start, when he pitched seven shutout innings in St. Petersburg. Westbrook is the rare Cardinals pitcher who has actually been less effective at home than on the road.

Once you stop expecting your team to play well and win, it's harder to be disappointed. Maybe the Reds will surprise us, but I admit to having low expectations about tonight's game.

Could we win one for the Pirates? They're reeling wins off...the least we could do is slow down the Cards a bit. ;)

Not thus far, but he only has 120 plate appearances and a .220 BABIP despite having a standard 19% line drive rate. So add 80 points to his OBP, and probably another 100 points in slugging, and suddenly his OPS against LHP looks to be quite normal.

Dusty went too long with Arroyo who clearly was gassed. Bray is the main culprit.

Laughable season.

Stubbs and Janish should come in for defense.

As recently as the sixth inning, Marty said that the official scorer in St. Louis must be on his knees praying for another hit from the Cards since the first hit should have been an error.

Two innings later it's 8-7

I thought the nightmare of the lost decade was booted away last year. But we only got a year off from it. Horrible starting pitching except for two guys (switch out Harang and Arroyo, bring in Cueto and Leake), guys with "stuff" not performing, and a bunch of chaff three games a week.

Why not let Stubbs pinch hit? That is the perfect place for a strike out being the worst case, rather that a double-play. Then at least Heisey gets a chance....

Right... beacuse most managers would think in those terms...let me bring someone up who could strike out as opposed to someone who will make contact...just in case they will ground into a double play.

I can understand the Stubbs running for RH and Hernandez hitting...and letting Stubbs run.....in order to force the issue.

Miguel Cairo hits ground balls 45% of the time he steps to the plate -- 47.6% this year. He is also not fast. A ground ball double play is very much a strong possibility with him. Stubbs hits ground balls at a similar rate, but is fast enough that he is likely to not get doubled up. Besides, I wasn't even saying I would have pinch-hit with Stubbs, I was just saying there was some good solid logic behind what the guy was saying: that logic being that at least with Stubbs, there was very little chance of a double play.
