Brewers: Narveson looking to bounce back
• To have any hope in starting the series off on the right foot, the Brewers will need to see improvement from southpaw Chris Narveson. His last outing was a tough one, marking only the 11th time in Brewers history that a pitcher surrendered 14 hits or more, and the first time since 1995.

Narveson's final line -- 14 hits, seven runs, two walks and one strikeout in 4 2/3 innings -- did not include a decision as the Brewers completed a stunning eight-run comeback.

As the Reds are 2-0 when I have posted these in the game threads we get Shakespeare and Dylan Thomas in da house!!!

I'm not sure that Zack Cozart's debut is going to be a historic marker

Fun fact: St. Crispin's Day falls on the day of the 1986 Bill Buckner game. I brought this up in Shakespeare class in Boston and became the most popular kid in school, obviously.

It was also the day of the 2005 WS game between the White Sox and the Astros that went until like two in the morning. And Phil Garner threw a chair.

Gooooooo Cozart!!!!

Bailey is mentally weak IMO. He has all the stuff in the world. But he does stuff like walk the pitcher on four pitches and then laying a phat one right down the middle to Weeks for a 3-run HR. I wish Bailey could get his trade value up so we could package him with Yonder Alonso in a blockbuster deal. But his value is probably less than a lot of us think.

Yup. I've been so dissapointed with his game calling all year. He loves fastballs in non-fastball situations. 0-2 FB's away baffle me, and he loves them. I would have gone with a get me over anything but fastball. Let Weeks hammer something else.

Is Bailey mental mistakes or just not enough command to consistently put the ball where he wants to? I have seen him hit very few targets tonight, and that is usual for him. I think it is just below average pitcher disease, it is chronic and it is fatal to a career.

On a different note, Milwaukee always has some loud mouth fan near the booth that screams the whole game for as long as they've been in the league.

Bad decision to try to steal there.

Stubbs is very fast, Votto due up in the inning. Good chance run can score without steal.

Just an unnecessary move that didn't work.

Reds aren't taking advantage of the breaks they're getting. They can't beat the Brewers without Braun, don't beat the Cards without Pujols, lose 2 of 3 to the Tribe without Choo, lose to the Yankees B-lineup, get swept three straight by the Tribe without Hafner.

It can't be completely unheard of in that situation, otherwise the Brewers wouldn't even have bothered to pitch out.

i'm more upset that cozart wasn't asked to bunt with runners at 1st and 2nd no outs in the 6th. instead he grounds into a first pitch double play. not the kids fault, dusty needs to put the team in the best chance to succeed and he fails once again.

While I agree that would have been an option, here's how it may have played out and the reason Baker didn't do it.
Cozart bunts the runners over. Hernandez is walked to fill the bases. Bailey hits with one out and bases full OR a pinch hitter is used. (Or maybe they pitch to Ramon, I wouldn't). Baker hates to lift the SP after less than 6.
That is a scenario which seems better if you need to score one or two, but the REDs were down three at the time and there was no assurance that the bullpen was going to hold the Brewers the rest of the game.
So Cozart wasn't asked to bunt and grounded into a DP on the FIRST pitch. Zach may be a rookie in MLB, but he's played ball for at least 10 years. That was a mental mistake (over-anxiousness) and he knows it.

Yeah, that was HIS fault.
