Unlucky Grienke at it again.

People took notice of how bad a year Josh Beckett had last season, despite his rather unlucky peripherals. Many of the same ones that said Beckett was having a much better year than his 5.78 ERA indicated, are sticking by Greinke. Know what happened with Beckett?

He has a 2.08 ERA and 0.91 WHIP despite his k-rate and walk rate being pretty similar, but the difference is his BABIP is 100 points less and his HR/FB ratio is down 10%.

I won't say Greinke's season is totally based on luck, but he's had his fair share of it. He'll bounce back just like Beckett did because these things do tend to balance out.

Was badly played, but there is an odd section of wall in right-center in Milwaukee that faces a weird angle toward left. The ball hit there, and bounced in a very different way than it would have with a regular wall, and went past Stubbs back toward left.

It's one thing if you have to configure the field to fit the shape of the plot of land upon which it is built (like Fenway Park), but anyone who has been to Miller Park (and I've been there) can tell you that there is nothing but open land around the stadium.

Personally, I love these shapes. They give the parks more personality. After all, Fenway is Fenway because of the originality of the wall at the time.

Quirky ballparks were built back in the old days because of necessity. Symmetrical fields were always preferred--they just weren't feasible. Dodger Stadium was built symmetrically in the early 60's because they had plenty of space to do so.

Point of order: DFA'ing someone is not releasing them or anything of the sort. DFA is a temporary placement of a player until a club figures out what to do with them (i.e. trade, release or seek an outright assignment to the minors in which, if the player accepts, they would just be sent down).

Because, as a staff, they performed better last year. They were league average last year, so it wasn't unreasonable to assume they would match that. Plus, you had expectations of some young guys improving. One has, but everyone else has regressed to the point of being terrible. That is unusual for any staff. Leake has been serviceable, but is starting to give up runs again.

I agree, I would have a much quicker hook. Only two games before all star break, no need to save the pen.

But Dusty has always managed this way. Hasn't suited the Reds well this year.

I'm starting to assume the Reds will lose every night. I'm mostly interested in how they fix the starting pitching for future years.
