A very good reliever that is still under team control next year, I believe. I wouldn't trade an Alonso type prospect for him, but if he could be had for a couple lesser prospects I'd definitely do it. I'd rather have him than Heath Bell personally.

Just remember before you jump on the bandwagon...Adams pitches in pitcher friendly Petco Park, which may skew his numbers. Check his road games to see how he is doing away from Petco. Any pitcher coming here will most likely see his numbers jump because of hitter friendly GABP. I'm not saying not to explore getting a reliever, but just remember how GAPB affects pitching overall. Send any of our relievers to Petco and I'm sure his numbers would improve. Just look at Aaron Harang's numbers this year.

The Padres received Anthony Rizzo in the package from the Red Sox for Adrian Gonzalez. He is a 21 year old 1st baseman who was absolutely destroying Triple A pitching to the tune of .365 average, 16 HR's and 63 RBI's in 52 games before forcing the Padres to call him up. I don't think they will need a 1st baseman for a while.

According to MLBTRADERUMORS.com the Padres are wanting an "elite prospect" in return for Adams. No way am I trading an elite prospect for a middle inning bullpen guy. Insanity. Our bullpen is the last part of the team that needs an upgrade. Starting pitching and a middle of the order run producing bat is all we need to be looking for.

Their C situation doesn't look all that great, if they're looking to trade Adams for the future I'd see if they'd bite on Yasmani Grandal, even though he's got a couple more years in the minors, but trading Sappelt or Yonder is just too much to give up if Adams doesn't stay in Cinci beyond 2012.

if they give up grandal i would go nuts. trading grandal is ok. trading him for mike adams is questionable at best. chris heisey for adams seems more realistic.

Rizzo was destroying pitching in triple A this year, yes, but prior to that he struggled in the minors. In double A in 2010, for instance, he went 263/334/481. That's decent, but that's also just double A. Moreover, his triple A numbers in the Padres organization were driven by a massively unsustainable .413 BABIP. To put it bluntly, I'd say he got incredibly lucky in a small sample size in triple A ball, got called up before he was ready, and is now batting .165 because he's over matched in the majors.

With that in mind, I wouldn't find it so far fetched to think the Padres might be interested in having more options at first base, and so Alonso might at least pique their interest.

I definitely see what you're saying but the kid is 21 years old. There are very few 21 year olds who wouldn't be overmatched in the majors. I just don't see them trading for another first baseman (I definitely can't see Alonso playing LF in that stadium) when they have more pressing needs elsewhere, namely catcher. Obviously that's just my opinion and I could be completely wrong. Either way I don't see us trading any "elite prospects" for a non starting pitcher.
