Joey welcomes him with a crisp line drive single to right center.

I thought he hit it well...wrong?

Weakly back to the pitcher but that comment was based before he even hit it. I was talking about the first two swinging strikes. To try and catch up a fastball at 95+ it looks like he has to commit to the idea of swinging so early he can't tell if its a ball or not. Looked awful on two pitches out of the zone.

Weren't people laughing at TLR just a while ago for walking Phillips to load the bases? I thought it was a smart move. Puts the DP in order.

Kinda hard to complain about the Reds leaving the bases loaded there. They DID score 2 runs that inning. We've retaken the lead AND we STILL get to face more of the Cards' relievers.

It's actually, unfortunately, quite believable.

Also should probably add Bruce and Hanigan -- Votto, Hernandez, Bruce, and Hanigan all have a .380+ wOBA in High Leverage situations, per Fangraphs; Votto has been ridiculous, sporting a .626 wOBA. However, you're all quite right about the rest of the team under-performing in those situations -- the next-highest is Cairo at .323. Phillips, Rolen, and Stubbs have been especially disappointing in high-leverage moments, all coming in at .250 or less.

So keep him in against Pujols with a one run lead late in a game, with a man on base. (if I remember situation correctly)

I agree about the rental player idea, I don't like it. But I don't agree with your reasoning.

Right now the Reds need to play championship baseball with the team they have. Which basically means they need to eliminate the small errors that are killing them and come up with some much needed timely hits. Selling the future for one year is silly to me. Yep. This game had very little to do with Dusty. It is up to the players who are playing to perform. It's just that tonight, the Cards are getting the timely hitting. That's about the long and short of it.

Cueto has been pitching fantastically. He gets run after some bloop hits and some poor defense. Something this team is NOT known for.
Chapman has been pitching fantastically lately. He comes in and can't find the zone and then forces one down the middle. Kinda hard to fault Dusty for using him considering how he'd pitched lately.
Bray has been pitching fantastically all year and he can't get a hitter out.
Logan comes in (and he's been great all year too) and he can't find the zone.

this is NOT on Dusty. it's up to the players to play. Right now, it's not happening.

Wow. Terrible ABs from the Reds this inning.

Another huge issue with this team, this year - their approach is completely ridiculous and seemingly unrecognized by management. So many bad AB's, all year.

PS - the Bullpen is fried because of 2-3 starters who have just had poor seasons as well, and were put together to supplement a deep starting staff that never materialized.

Sorry so cynical tonight - the type of game, if they lose, where I just have to give up on them finally...resignation.

Yes, Chapman did. Not Dusty. Lewis made the bad defensive play on Pujols earlier...not Dusty. Phillips made the error that would've ended the inning...not Dusty. The guys that Dusty has chosen to play tonight have been the right guys prior to the inning happening. It's only the second guessing, easy-chair managers who know what SHOULD have been done. It's easy to look smart when you're using hindsight. (and no, this isn't directed at you personally Kc...just a general comment on the state of game threads nowadays.) It's always bad luck against the Reds, poor play by the Reds, poor managing & decisions by the Reds....it's never just a well played game by the opposition.

I don't think tonight on Dusty as much as the entire season is. This team has played very little inspired ball this year. They're regularly flat and continually in tight games that they should be comfortably ahead in. Combine that with questionable lineup construction and overall handling of the pen and I think Dusty has done a rather poor job this season. The team is about to go 3 games under .500...Dusty's gotta wear a good share of the blame.
