Everyone says ESPN caters to the big markets (And they do in their coverage.... but when it comes to showing games, TBS takes the cake.

NYY, Boston and Philly....that is it. That is all they ever show. You have two 2 teams here with a big rivalry and yet you have to show Philly at the Mets.
Without a doubt...they must really need thew ratings.

Is there any other team in baseball this year that has spent more innings behind than the Reds? Especially for a team as close to .500? They are seemingly behind at some point of every game they play, win or lose.

Why are you so down on Lewis. 4th OF, good bench player. You do need those remember that?

Has hit over .300 for a month and an OBP of about almost .400 as well. What the heck more do you want out of 4th OF's and bench guys?

I don't recall the requirement for the bench guy was to be Willie Mays or Eric davis.

I'm not too worried about Homer. Most of our starters have been keeping us in the game. It's the offense I worry about. They either seem to score 20 runs or none...against Garcia it seems to be the latter. You can't ask every starter to shut out every team every night...even with the Phillies starters that would be unreasonable. If the starter keeps us close, the offense needs to score...then there's the closer. :alcohol:

Reds lose close games because:

the other teams' starting pitchers are better. Or,

the team lacks good situational hitters, except Votto. Or,

the Reds' closer is blowing leads. Or,

All of the above.

Our outfield is a mess right now. Bruce and Stubbs are mere shadows of themselves, as they were last year (except for Bruce's great month) and left field is simply a wasteland. Surely Bruce and Stubbs will turn it around soon, but left field? It should have been addressed after the 2010 season. IMHO.

I agree...someone better to start....but as a bench guy, he is doing very good. I know many do not like the Dusty mantra of "I like to play everyone" but with Hesiey and Lewis....he has mixed/matched them petty well.

I would love a true blue LF to play 150 starts as well if not more and actually help the 4th place Hell Hole. Someone though has to be on the bench and help as well..... unless it's Cito Gaston managing the team.....the bench players will play some.

Remember....there is always room for plenty of other village idiots around here. Is Bernie Carbo our Godfather of the Village Idiots?

Cozie's on with a single...a hit in every game so far. :D One out since Stubbs grounded to the 2nd baseman making his first out in his last 5 ABs.

meanwhile Theriot starts the Riot. after pulling his foot off the bag at second. Replay looks like he may have dragged his foot across it, but he bumped the ump in the ensuing argument, so he's gone. Maybe suspension coming.

So it's 1st & 2nd with one out for DatDude.

Next up are the Pirates, who have beaten us 5 of 6 so far.

I got a $20 bet with a Pirate fan that the Reds would win their head-to-head contest this year. 9 games left, and all at Pitt. While it's not impossible, the Reds going 7-2 in those remaining games is pretty remote IMO.

Yeah Zachs play makes it difficult acquiring a SS in the next 2 weeks. Hed have to fall well below the Janish line and quickly for that to happen.

Anything but the current 3 man platoon in LF. There are better options than a couple of the guys who currently have the job, but my guess is Walt's focus now is strictly pitching.

Time for Alonso to get a look. If they don't like him in LF, then stop the charade and deal him for help. I'd still keep Gomes around to play against LHP. Lewis is the guy to go. Lewis is OK on a team where he fits (lead-off vs. RHP) but as an extra man, he's a poor defender, can't really steal bases anymore, has little power and the Reds need more than his one trick provides.

Yeah sorry.

It looked like the pitch was a breaking ball, or at least it was sinking out of the zone into the left hander batter's box. Molina reached out for it and clipped it with his bat. the ball flared, Phillips had to play the ball off his left shoulder. He went sideways, grabbed the ball and came tumbling down.

Hope this helps.

Cozart. Hr
This team is so confusing. How they can look flat and uninterested one day and inspired the next amazes me. They are also confusing. After finding a SS with pop on the farm, they continue to march Gomes out there to fail. One of Dusty's hunches, I guess. "He's due soon.."

Job 1 - find a cleanup hitter.
Job 2 - find a LF banger
Job 3 - rid the team of players who Dusty will be tempted to start

One and two could be the same player.

Great win, warts and all. Just a few tweaks and...

I have a question about the Reds bullpen. Does everyone think they can sustain the excellence they have shown the rest of the year? Watching the games with my Grandpa this weekend (which was particularly special and a great time) it shocked me the amount of innings and appearances many of your guys have had in the pen. Do you think they will get worn out by the end of the season?

JaxRed

I don't sweat the bullpen a bit. Even some of our least favorite guys like Arredondo and Fisher have ERA's under 4.

They do need to get Chapman to AAA as a starter though.

Good question.

Hopefully the starters will be able to go deeper into games and the Reds can avoid so many long extra inning games in the second half of the season.

Agree. I think I would give up Travis Wood for him if that could be worked out, but I don't see Colo. trading him for anything less than a boatload at the moment. They're in the strong seat and can demand what they want.
