My tv said that there was suppose to baseball from 1-4 was it wrong? Rain Delay? Rain Out? Because normally the HSN type shows was preempted by Fox Sports Ohio. My tv provider is Charter (or whatever its being called now).

Yeah, given tonight's game is on national TV and the Reds, by rule, aren't allowed to win back-to-back games anymore, I think I know who I'm laying money on tonight...

I think this one belongs to the Reds. The Braves are stocked with lefties which favors Willis and a game like yesterday is going to give the offense some confidence.

Time to get Positive Redszone!!!

On a WAR per plate appearance basis, Cairo is neck and neck with Joey for top player on the Reds.
Just thought I would throw that out there. Getting that old fogey Rolen out of here for the young sensation Cairo should continue making the Reds a better team.

You know, when Willis has had the ability to throw strikes, he has always been pretty decent.

In his trouble years he never could. He has thrown well in the minors and continued with a few minor bad control innings in the majors. I think he's healthy and has improved mechanics. At this point, I don't think we need to be as skeptical of him as in years past.

Big things happen when Stubbs gets on base. Honestly, with his strikeout problems I would have no problem with him being very aggressive early in the count. He generally puts the barrel on the ball when he makes contact, and I could live with him acting like less of the prototypical leadoff man.

Yep. Stubbs really isn't cut out to be a leadoff hitter; his OBP is a bit too low, and his power profiles better more in the middle of the order. Then again -- as has been harped on endlessly for two years -- the Reds lack a legitimate leadoff guy.

1st: 66

Just glad to see them finally win a back-to-back game doing their typical 11 runs one night, 3 runs the next, and making it 4 with the help of Stubby...who can be crazy good and made things happen throughout the game (catch at wall/stolen base, walk-off et al).

Glad for the end to the no-back-to-back-win streak.

But did anybody catch the ESPN Game of the Week stats that Kelch just mentioned. I was only half listening, but I think he said that until tonight, we were 0-for Great American, and last won an ESPN Sunday game in 1992 at Riverfront.

Also, counting all games, we lost 8 or so GotW appearances. Which is a function of not being invited onto ESPN' s Sunday game, but also indicates epic levels of Suck by the Redlegs...

Did anybody get all those ESPN GotW stats and want to reshare them? I almost couldn't believe my ears, so I'd love to have them recorded for posterity (and so I can fact-check them, if I still don't believe them once somebody re-shares them)....

Yeah, given tonight's game is on national TV and the Reds, by rule, aren't allowed to win back-to-back games anymore, I think I know who I'm laying money on tonight...

Like I was saying, I knew the good guys had this one the whole time.

The Reds just took 2 out of 3 from a very good and talented club. The one they lost got away from them late. I don't think they're gonna go on any Red Soxian 10-game winning streaks, but I really feel like their best ball is ahead of them. They got the guns, they just need to quit shooting themselves in the foot.

Hey, those 256 posts were enough to get me into the ORG! I'm very proud of the fact that I have awesome things to say about baseball. I'm also very aware of the fact that RedZone has other awesome people who tend to say things about baseball before I get around to it. Ergo: I'm not going to waste anybody's time by repeating something somebody else already said.

But thanks for the sentiment. I appreciate it.

In this case, I am counting on the awesomeness of somebody else to bail me out on this question.... even if I misheard the "1992," the 0-for-GABP on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball seems to be accurate, then? Snapping an 8-game GotW losing streak could be about right, too?

I'm really curious to know what those overall Reds/ESPNGotW stats were... in an odd way, that might be the best microcosm of "the lost decade" you could come up with: it doesn't just get to the pain of being a true Reds fan, but also explains why nobody outside of Cinci is aware of the Reds....

He struck out the batter, that's not "barely".

He faced 4 batters, struck out 2 of them, gave up a fly ball and a single.

I suppose I equate "barely" with a ball caught up against the wall with two OF's colliding that was a foot away from a 2-run HR...if he hadn't been so bad of late (in stark comparison to his excellent first half over-all) I probably wouldn't say anything I guess.

Hyperbole on the "foot away" from the home run part there I have to add. If Heisey hadn't made it so interesting it was a ball to the track caught by Stubbs.

We're out of town this weekend and my wife slept lousy on Saturday night with us driving home today. She's saying to me & our daughters that if it goes into extras, the TV's going off. I know, she's a lifelong baseball fan, but she was insisting it was going off. So Drew saw to it that we could get our sleep and win the game all on one pitch. Well, not exactly, since I decided I had better doublecheck my one daughter's flight reservations since she didn't go on her inbound flight (O'Hare flooding on Friday) and we bought her a 1-way ticket here - and sure enough, they'd canceled the return flight for her. Fortunately two of her cousins are driving back to Chicago & she's riding with them & Continental's refunding our money. But Reds Win and we got most of our sleep.

Phillips was not even covering first to nab the runner.I didn't want to repeat something that was in the game thread. I was disturbed by some good ESPN camera work. I was upset when Hernandez did not give a better effort to block the pitch in the dirt that allowed McLouth to advance into scoring position. I thought, "I can't stand Yadier Molina, but you can never say it was lack of effort if one gets by him." Hernandez did not even go to his knees or shift, just barely put the glove out. His only defense would be "I was crossed up."

Then, when I saw the right play made to get the trailing runner except Brandon was standing watching the play instead of rotating, then was too late once he got back into the play, I was very upset. Votto had him hung out to dry, but Brandon was late getting there, and it was because he was standing doing nothing on the hit to CF. Make the flashy, rangy plays, great, but also get your fundamentals plays right too.

Those two plays, late in a one run game, require better efforts than that. And perhaps it is things like that where you are just a bit sloppy, where the game is decided. I'm not a big "little things" guy, but I am a big "did you do your best?" type of guy. Neither or those things were about ability, but they were about effort, and sometimes that can win/lose a ballgame.

I don't know if that was lack of effort. Seems pretty basic I know, and I'm not sure how a ML player doesn't instinctively rotate, but BP's been caught napping a time or two this season already. Think it's just another case of that.

Think it's just another case of that.I would consider lack of concentration a lack of effort. Effort is not just physical performance, but also staying mentally sharp while on the job. It isn't "being lazy," its failing to stay focused, which requires effort. You stay focused, then you aren't standing there watching the play, you're getting to where you're supposed to be.
