Glad to see Frazier at third! Hopefully Yonder can get some playing time as well, he looked better in left than I expected; he took very good routes that compensated for his speed a bit. Of all the lineups Dusty has trotted out recently I think this is my favorite.

At least Frazier is in there. It took getting rid of Gomes and bringing Alonso up to get Dusty to play Heisey. What warped way to get business done.

I think the general idea is to do both. If you keep your throw low, the cut off man can either catch it or let it go through. Blame the cut off man if there was a play at the plate.

On a game last week when Bruce didn't hit the cutoff man one of the Reds announcers said Bruce had been told to hit the cutoff man no matter what. That's the only thing I heard about that so it may not be true or maybe I misunderstood. I thought that was rather odd myself to put a blanket on Bruce or anyone like that.

I'm starting to hate GABP from a playability standpoint. Hitters come in here with such confidence, and then when we throw out marginal arms to boot, and its BP, series after series. The other team can be good offensively (Mets), the other team can be marginal offensively (Dodgers), or they can be a horrible offense (Pirates) and they start mashing.

Some of its our pitching, but I think it also springs from the aggressive approach teams employ when they come to play here. Sort of the opposite effect that Petco has on hitters/pitchers.

 I was kidding! Mike Lum left after 1978....it was Mike Vail who was demanding playing time.

This is more like 1991 and 1993 really. 1971 that team had HOF hitters at 3 positions. NO FA..... trades were easier to make based on what you needed NOT prospects and what the contract status was.

The problem is that LCF and CF are about average for the league. Really outside of straight down the line in RF, the dimensions aren't too small. Maybe you back it up because the ball flies out of GABP but to think that the dimensions to all fields are small is incorrect.

The problem is that LCF and CF are about average for the league. Really outside of straight down the line in RF, the dimensions aren't too small. Maybe you back it up because the ball flies out of GABP but to think that the dimensions to all fields are small is incorrect.Infamously small gaps. Even though the footage is the same, the gaps are very small. It probably is what it is, but there's just no death valley in the park. Even Citizens bank has a few death valleys due to configuration. As fast as the Reds move, we better put our order in for the next ballpark they build in about 2030

Good comp. Philly park is not exactly big either but has way deeper gaps and alleys to offset the smallish LF/RF walls and lines.

I'm not one to complain about Dusty. Ever. But someone explain this because maybe I'm missing it.

Janish PHing instead of Yonder. OK, that means Yonder will bat third for Renteria in a double switch right? No, Renteria hits. Anyone got anything on that one?

It's double switching for the sake of double switching. Chapman came in for Frazier. So Janish came in for Arredondo in the 9th spot.

The advantage if you will, is that Chapman can pitch the ninth.
The disadvantage is that Janish is your leadoff hitter and the Mets manager knows it.

If you didn't double switch, you would have had to PH anyway.

Perhaps Chapman would have gone 2 if he had thrown few pitches.

Janish went to bat and Yonder didn't. Bottom line.

Tired of hearing Welch tell us that the Reds showed a lot of heart. They have showed little heart, giving away games like today by not executing a basic fundamental of the game. Give me Marty, telling it like it is, any day. Right now, the Reds are basically terrible. .

I love Ramon's bat, but the next pitch in the dirt he blocks today will be the first. That's two in the late innings within a week. I commented on the lazy way he went after one for Willis Sunday night that put the eventual tying run in scoring position.

But, he came with that wart. That was brought up as a glaring weakness from his time in Baltimore. Don't say we weren't warned. In fairness, his bat has more than made up for defensive lapses in his time here. Just is very poor timing when your team is reeling to decide you're going to be a part of the problem.

No excuses for Homer BUT this i saw somewhere and I am posting it here......

Date/Earned Runs Given up/Catcher

May 5 – 1 – Hanigan
May 10 – 0 – Hanigan
May 16 – 3 – Hanigan
May 21 – 2 – Hanigan
May 26 – 4 – Hanigan
June 26 – 5 – Hernandez
July 2 – 2 – Hanigan
July 7 – 5 – Hernandez
July 17 – 1 – Hanigan
July 23 – 2 – Hanigan
July 28 – 9 – Hernandez

Homer’s three worst starts are with Ramon catching. In fact, Homer hasn’t had a single good start with Ramon catching or a bad start with Hanigan catching.

Normally, Ramon catches Cueto and Willis. Hanigan catches Arroyo and Bailey. They alternate with Leake.

I love Ramon's bat, but the next pitch in the dirt he blocks today will be the first.

Hernandez can be really lazy behind the plate. He reaches a lot for balls in the dirt without shifting his body to block them. That could be a big reason no one has already traded for him. If we can see this you know other teams do.

Will we even finish .500? The playoffs are certainly out, but can we even post back-to-back winning records at this point? Five under with 50-some to play isn't impossible, but it's becoming increasingly unlikely by the day.

Does it even matter? Seriously who cares if we do and I don't say that in a flippant manner. Anything short of another playoff appearance this season is a failure. Nothing to build on here with moral victories and the like. The 2011 season will go down as a colossal bust for the team, its manager and certainly its GM.
