Glad to see Sappelt in the line-up, but hate that its at Yonder's expense. Drew Stubbs is the guy who should sit. Time to find out if Alonso can pass in left, Sappelt can play center and how both hit. We already know that Stubbs is a superior defender who hits like Jonny Gomes when Gomes is in a slump. Keep him on the bench and the Ks out of the record books.

Not sure what is worse. Todd Frazier hitting fifth or the fact that he's probably the best guy in the line-up to do it. 6 thru 9 looks pretty easy for a pitcher to pitch to today.

Stubbs where he should be penciled in until further notice. Perfect place for his skill set.

Against RHP, Stubbs should sit. .230/.303/.352/.655 in 402 PAs with 122 Ks. If Yonder is hurt, I'd play Lewis in LF and at least get a look at Sappelt in CF. Stubbs is accumulating too many Ks. Each K erodes his value that much more. He shouldn't see many more RHP in 2011.

That is saying a lot because I don't see much need to play Lewis anymore, but if Yonder is hurt, its the best idea IMO.

I think Stubbs should top the list of guys to deal. The Reds are overloaded with guys who can hit 6th or 7th. Stubbs has a .939 OPS vs. Lefty pitching this year and with his speed and defense it would make him a good bench player, but as a first round pick with lots of potential, I think the Reds could do better by dealing him. They need to open some spots for guys who can do something besides hit 6th or 7th. I'd make CF and lead-off Sappelt's job to lose and keep Heisey aroud as a bench player and fall back if Sappelt falters.

Hopefully Stubbs could be a major piece in a deal for an arm or a clean-up bat.

I know that, but you've also got to remember that he's trying to fit himself into that leadoff hitter role too. That square peg doesn't fit into that round hole. Once you take off that mentality...who knows WHAT he'll do. I do know that he's always hit much better lower in the order.

Comparing Stubbs to Rolen doesn't work. Rolen lifetime is a true middle of the order hitter. When he slid this year Dusty dropped him to sixth. Stubbs against RHP is an out machine.

Stubbs cleanup is a future aspiration. Right now he is a sixth or seventh place hitter, at least against righties.

I get it. I like Stubbs oK, but the Reds need another bat in the middle and somebody at the top. Not everybody can hit 6th or 7th. Cozart is strictly an 8 hole guy IMO. Phillips should hit 6th but he's acceptable 2nd. Rolen should hit 7th. The Catchers probably won't hit up in the order. Even in AAA Mesoraco has been hitting 6th. So if Votto and Bruce fill two thirds of the middle and Phillips hits second, then they need LF and CF to hit 1st and 4th. I don't think Stubbs fits in either spot. With Sappelt pushing his way in and Heisey around as an insurance policy, Stubbs just seems like the guy to deal.

I wasn't really trying to compare Rolen & Stubbs. Only saying that his SLG probably isn't a good thing to point to when saying he's not a cleanup hitter since our regular cleanup hitter is doing pretty much exactly that. My point was that Stubbs possesses excellent power. I don't think anybody here will deny that. It's been making contact that's been the problem. That and looking at strikes. The looking at strikes thing...I really think a good part of that has been him trying to adapt to the leadoff role and attempting to see more pitches. When he's lower in the order, he's more aggressive (at least when I've watched him). I just don't think we've seen him out of the leadoff spot enough to really know what he'd do there. I'd obviously prefer a true cleanup hitter there, but you never know...he might fit that role well if given a shot.

Personally, I think Devin is going to be that cleanup hitter we're looking for.
