Reds facing 6 righties in 7 games on this homestand. Will Alonso get a start against any of them? So far, 0-for-4. Today's benching particularly impressive as it's a noontime game after a night game.

Can Dave Sappelt play 2b? I don't recall him every playing there, but he appears to have decent range, but little arm. If the glove is ok, seems like a tool set that would fit well at 2b. If so, could be an answer at both the leadoff spot and 2b post Brandon Phillips.

I don't think Alonso is going to play unless Votto is injured. Maybe when the Reds are officially eliminated he may get in some games. Which goes back to the question, why is he up here then if he's not going to play? To watch paint dry?

Frazier was clearly safe after slowing it down on DVR. Terrible call.

FS Ohio NEVER showed a replay, nor did they talk about it. They came back from commercial like the play never happened.

It's sad how poor their television production is compared to other clubs. The call cost the Reds at least a run.

Read the SI recap of this game and I didn't know this...

Cueto, who blamed bad chicken wings for an upset stomach while pitching a season-low 3 2-3 innings in his last start at Wrigley Field, bounced back to throw three-hit ball for seven shutout innings. He took over the NL ERA lead, lowering his mark from 2.06 to 1.94.

"I didn't have any wings today," Cueto said. "I felt strong. I have been working hard to get better."

Tom Servo
08-11-2011, 05:22 PM

I heard Welsh mention today that Cueto felt sick during his last start, but I didn't hear the chicken wing part.

That's the great thing about baseball. Every day brings a new game. When your team wins you feel great even if the overall season isn't so good.
