Solid performance by homer.

I cannot stand this pitcher for the Cubs. He does not throw strikes...throws garbage basically...but even a smart hitter like Alonso is fooled on what was ball 6., I guess I should be mad at the Reds hitters for not figuring this guy out by now.

Shame two of Bailey's strikes ended up in the seats. Otherwise, that's a nice accounting.

BTW, score is tied, sacks are jammed. Don't know how the 3rd run scored, but Alonso walked to force in the tying run. Heisey up after a pitching change, one down. Notre Dame player with long name pitching.

Slow roller up the middle, Heisey beats the throw, run scores, bases still loaded. Reds up 5-4, Frazier up.

Bailey found his breaking ball. He had no command of it earlier and the cubbies were teeing off on his fastball.

Cashner in to pitch. Janish leads off with a walk after fouling off several pitches. Bailey up to bat.

I'm a little confused. I can understand playing Frazier even if his hitting near the interstate, just to look at him, but Janish? Oh, well. Defense is wonderful and if you have lights out pitching, you can score three runs and win. Of course, the Giants tried that and we see the result. I'd rather see Francisco at third and Edgar at short until we reach .500.

But I'll take a 5-4 lead at this point.

Pitching change for Mr. Votto.Wish we had a guy in front of Votto in the lineup who would stay put so they have to pitch to him. Wish we had a guy behind him that would make them pitch to him. I'm old enough that my wishes shouldn't hurt me, but I wish...

Sorry, my computer locked up. Votto was called out on strikes on a check swing, base umpire ringing up. Aredondo got two out and then hit Ramirez. Bray then got the 3rd out. Still 6-4 Reds.

One of which has to be a closer. This is brutal and has been going on all year. How many extra innings games have we had that the bullpen blew for us?

It wont be too long before the name of Jay Bruce is added to this list. :)

Bruce has 99 now, not too shabby for as few AB's as he's had to make up his short Reds career.

Sorry for having to drop out on the updates. My computer was very unstable last night. Mozilla was locking up on me and is still slow this a.m. I'm using IE now (and it's old). Glad to see us pull out the win. I tossed & turned last night with my back bothering me and I kept thinking that we'd lost this game.

Closer has not been that big a problem for us this year.

I see where you're coming from but I do think we need to go another direction next year. 6 blown saves is a lot given the lack of opportunities for Coco this year. He clearly no longer has a putaway pitch as shown by that 12 pitch AB in the top of the 9th. He's expensive and you have to figure his skills will erode from here on out.

I'd like to think Boxberger could contribute to this pen next yr but even if he does we'll need more help than that

Not that I've lost interest, but I missed the Mentalist finale first time around, so this game ended at ten for me. Sad to see the bullpen blew up, good to see the final result.
