Best

10: Phillies re-sign Rollins at 3/$39M
9: Reds sign Ryan Madson for 1/$8.5M
8: A's acquire Peacock, Norris, Cole, and Milone for Gio Gonzalez
7: Yankees acquire Michael Pineda and Jose Campos for Montero and Hector Noesi
6: Yankees sign Kuroda for 1/$10M
5: Nationals sign Edwin Jackson for 1/$11M
4: Skipping, it was stupid.
3: Padres acquire Alonso, Grandal, Volquez, and Boxberger for Mat Latos
2: Marlins sign Jose Reyes for 6/$106M
1: Cardinals sign Carlos Beltran for 2/$26M

Worst

10: Twins sign Matt Capps for 1/$4.75M
9: Royals sign Bruce Chen for 2/$9M
8: Rangers sign Joe Nathan for 2/$14M
7: Brewers sign Aramis Ramirez for 3/$36M
6: Marlins sign Mark Buehrle for 4/$58M
5: Nationals acquire Gio Gonzalez for Peacock, Norris, Cole, and Milone
4: Rockies sign Michael Cuddyer for 3/$31M
3: Marlins sign Heath Bell for 3/$27M
2: Tigers sign Prince Fielder for 9/$214M
1: Phillies sign Jonathan Papelbon for 4/$50M

To call the Reyes signing "smart" and the Buerhle and Bell signings bad is almost idiotic, if you ask me.

Haha, omitting the Oswalt entry because it won't be with us? But really, someone is going to sign him to a really good deal.

Taken by itself the Reyes deal is a little on the 'ehhhh' side to me, but seeing as how he's almost as valuable as Fielder and got half the cash but only three less years...

How is the Oswalt deal #4 when it hasn't happened yet?

If he signs somewhere for $15MIL it would be in the 'worst' category IMO.
If he signs somewhere for $6MIL then it would be better than the Padres deal and possibly better than the Reyes signing.

The Buerhle and Bell signings were good ones as far as getting the player, the amount and/or the number of years given to them makes them bad.
You may also be correct about the Reyes signing, a bit overpriced possibly.

I don't think the Beltran signing is going to be that big a deal - not that it's a bad deal, per se, but I would move that one down from # 1. The Madsen deal should be higher than #9 imho.

He doesn't have the Angels signing Pujols on either list - that was one of the biggest deals of the off season.

Doesn't it seem like when it comes to trades they should mirror image each other? It just seems like if a trade is so good for one team then it must be bad for the other team. Maybe not. I am tired.

I think it's basically saying we got what we needed, but overpaid to do it.

Perhaps Beltran will be a stud, but I will be surprised if he (and Reyes) both make it through the season without missing 20 games due to injuries - and if that happens it kinda makes it hard to justify as #1 or #1 best offseason moves.

How is giving a 35 year old, often injured outfielder 13 million per year for 2 years the best deal this offseason?

losing maloney means that there wont be any more no hitters thrown by the reds as maloney pitched a couple.

And I might be one of the few on here to have seen Maloney pitch many times.

Jim was my favorite pitcher.

The guy was great and I think he made something like $60,000 for a year at his peak.

I can remember thinking how unfair it was that he was hurt in '70, and didn't get to take part in the World Series. And then his career was over just a year later and at such a young age.
