#Reds lineup per Fay

Cozart 6,
Stubbs 8,
Votto 3,
Phillips 4,
Bruce 9,
Ludwick 7,
Frazier 5,
Hanigan 2,
Arroyo RHP 0-0, 2.63 ERA

v
Furcal 6,
Jay 8,
Holliday 7,
Beltran 9,
M.Carpenter 3,
Cruz 2,
Descalso 5,
Greene 4,
Adam Wainwright, RHP
0-2, 11.42 ERA

Adam Wainwright called Friday's home opener the worst start of his career, but more than anything else, it served as a reminder for the Cardinals' ace.

Wainwright gave up eight earned runs in only three innings. It was the second shortest outing of his career and only one of two in which he's surrendered eight earned runs. As he continues to make his way back from Tommy John surgery, Wainwright could be discovering that rough outings like Friday's are simply part of the process in returning.

"I guess it is," he said. "That's not the way I was pitching in Spring Training. I was throwing the ball with a lot of life. Everything was very sharp early in the spring. Toward the end of spring -- I wouldn't call it a dead-arm phase -- but I've certainly got a little ways to go."

Phillips knows why he's been struggling, pointing to a sore left hamstring that has him playing around 60 percent right now. And he believes the rest of his team will come around at the plate eventually as well.

"It's hard for me to hit off of my legs. My presence in the lineup is cool. I can get key hits when I need to. My timing is off a little bit," Phillips said. "When it comes to everyone else, I don't know how they feel when they're in the box. You can only go off of production and we're not getting key hits in key situations. We're not having good at-bats. I believe in this team. We've been through it all. When it rains it pours and right now, things aren't going our way."

Sorry I didn't give you more credit, there have been so many comments that should be laughable where people are actually being serious, that its hard to distinguish.

I'm still a big Stubbs fan (maybe the only one left around here?) but I don't think he's squared a ball up yet this season. Seems like every hit he does have has been an infield hit.

Typical first inning. only an infield hit to show. Either St. Louis and Washington have staffs of Cy Youngs or even Sandy Koufaxes or our guys are simply horrible. Of course, Wainwright came in with an ERA of 11.00.

Wainwright's pitch count is already at 21 and he doesn't look anything like the pitcher he was in the past. He'll probably still shutout the Reds, but it won't look that pretty. lol

Not sure how much of a partier you are, but I would say you have to hit up Clark Street for some warm up beverages before the game if you're into that kind of thing. My favorite place is called Vines, which has a great outdoor patio. All of these bars are jam packed for baseball games, but that's part of the fun. Be prepared to pay $5-$6 for a can of Bud Light. Ridiculous, but it works.

If you don't have tickets, I would recommend doing the bleachers if you're a partier. If not, I would recommend getting tickets in the 400 section. They're upper deck, but very close to the action, and usually in the sun. If you get in the 200's or 500's you can end up in the shade, which can get kind of chilly in May.

For sight seeing, I would take the Chicago Architectural Tour from Navy Pier. It's about an hour boat ride along the river, and it's quite enjoyable. I live here, and I've done it three times (granted it was all with tourists in town).

Show wise, I would check out Second City (buy tickets in advance). Be sure to buy tickets for whichever show is on the main stage. I live almost right next door, and it's a blast every time I've been. Never fails.

Food - Some of my favorite places include Quartino, Cantina Laredo, Uncle Julio's (not exclusive to Chicago), Gibsons (famous steakhouse), Fulton's on the River, Hub 51 (party atmosphere).

Anything I'm missing?

I still feel OK. Leave Arroyo in to face 6-7-8, if it gets to the top of the order, go to the Cuban. Regardless of what happens, Cuban starts the 8th, Marshall the 9th.

I'd feel worse if the top of the lineup was coming up in the 7th.

I don't like Dusty, but I haven't been barking for him to get canned yet. If he somehow screws up the bullpen in these remaining 3 innings, I WILL be calling for him to get canned, because this should be about as easy as it gets.

I disagree with leaving Arroyo in. Maybe it will work out. But I think there's a much better chance the seventh could be a long inning. The bottom of the Cards order can hit.

At 71 pitches, and 6 pretty solid innings, it isn't that realistic to pull him. No?

True enough. I didn't know he was only at 71 pitches. However, any time Arroyo gets past the 6th it makes me nervous. It's fine bringing him back out as long as he's on a short leash.

I think it comes down to the old adage... do you go with the guy that's warm and on a roll or do you go to the guy that's cold off the bench? There's risk in both but at only 85 pitches and coming off a 1-2-3 inning, I think that was the better choice.

I love Marshall because he can locate his curveball on any count. His slider is good enough that he can use it to set up his fastball, as opposed to the other way around. The nice thing is that people actually get fooled by his fastball quite often because of that.

The second base situation and the Cardinals medical staff are the two huge points of criticism I have had about the Cards for years. Once again, instead of DLing a guy right off the bat, they trust the player and the player in turn makes it worse. This same damn thing happened last year with Holliday. Never trust a player to give the team a full medical diagnosis.
