I'm not concerned about Cozart, he has played in every game this year. He has to get a day off at some point.

The Reds tend to tee off against Zito. I hope tonight is no different. I predict big games by Phillips and Bruce.

Not a good forecast for tonight. I do think they get this in with just possible delays as the steadier rain is supposed to happen more overnight.

Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 4am. Low around 58. South wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Cozart did miss a start earlier, but was brought in as a pinch hitter and late inning defensive replacement. Personally, I'd go ahead and play him while he is semi-hot at the plate. But, that's why I don't get paid the big bucks.

Central Updates (since everybody else has finished)

Pirates 1, Rockies 2 Game 1
Pirates 5, Rockies 1 Game 2 (rain out make up game)
Astros 7, Brewers 5
Cards 5, Cubs 1

Okay, seriously...this is beyond annoying. Lance Lynn...a freaking nobody...4-0 with a 1.33 era now. It seems like every year the Cards have some scrub come up like this. The old excuse was their "magic" pitching coach. Well, he's gone and the crud keeps happening. He's been not much more than a Matt Maloney or a Sam LeCure as a minor league starter...and now this. *sigh* Okay, I'm done. /venting

“It’s not really a day (off),” Baker said. “It’s a day against a softer throw. Most young guys aren’t crazy about soft throwers — old guys either. I believe in playing everybody. Valdez has had good success against (Barry) Zito, so has Stubbs.”

"Slightly above average." I can agree with that. But remember that next time someone tries to tell you that Stubbs is some defensive asset in CF for the Reds. He's about average. He's fast and has a good arm, but is bad at several things (bad around the wall, bad at ground balls/one-hoppers, etc).

Really? Are you saying the "slightly above average" thing is inaccurate? I'd say that's dead on (maybe a bit generous, in fact). People see a lightning-fast Stubbs in center and assume he's a great defensive player. But it's far from the truth.

I think he's very good out there. He makes plays look routine that other guys make diving acrobatic plays on. He does, however, avoid contact...with the wall and the ground. I rarely see him dive or make the acrobatic play. I'll take him out there every day of the week. If there's any OF defender on here who's overrated, it's Heisey.
