Here is the Reds lineup via baseballpress.com. Grandpa Rolen gets the day off and Cozart is back. I guess he's old enough to hit against Vogelsong?

I won't be around as usual for a weekday afternoon game. Work gets in the way today. Bring home a sweep RZ.

1. Zack Cozart (R) SS (http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=cozarza01&year=Career&t=b)
2. Drew Stubbs (R) CF (http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=stubbdr01&year=Career&t=b)
3. Joey Votto (L) 1B (http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=vottojo01&year=Career&t=b)
4. Brandon Phillips (R) 2B (http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=phillbr01&year=Career&t=b)
5. Jay Bruce (L) RF (http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=bruceja01&year=Career&t=b)
6. Chris Heisey (R) LF (http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=heisech01&year=Career&t=b)
7. Todd Frazier (R) 3B (http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=frazito01&year=Career&t=b)
8. Devin Mesoraco (R) C (http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=mesorde01&year=Career&t=b)
9. Homer Bailey (R) P (http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=baileho02&year=Career&t=b)

It is humorously early, but Cozart leads the Reds' hitters in WAR at 0.8.

Huh? That's his second career error in over 200 innings, and from it sounds like, that was a horrible scoring decision, and the error was made by Phillips.

Cozart probably came off the base to take the throw by Phillips. But most of the time, that play is called an out.

That was my thought. That play gets called an out 90 percent of the time. On the flip side, though, it's awfully hard to call an error on Dat Dude.

Not talking about errors counted by official scorers. I'm talking about little things that don't always show up in a box score. Sometimes, I've seen him not lining up properly, or a little slow in covering base. Sometimes his throws to 1B are a little off. Most of the time, its no big deal. As I said, it's probably more of a rookie thing.

Watching it live, looked like a borderline low pitch down the middle of the plate. F/X shows what it shows. Could have been called either way IMO.

Marshall didn't have it today. He could have escaped with a different call, true, but he was still ahead in the count on Pagan when he gave up the home run.

Marshall is a terrific pitcher, I just hope he succeeds as a closer. He's a lefty curve ball specialist, not the usual type. Chapman or Arredondo appear to be more like the usual closer.

We'll see.

I really don't understand how anybody can watch a game like that and think "man, having umpires call balls and strikes unassisted by technology that could easily support them really adds to the game." Gotta love when the "human element" works against you...

Funny thing, I actually think that Questec is causing more bad calls. Umps know they are being graded, and it gets into their heads. Instead of calling their game with their own consistant, yet inaccurate strike zone, they are worrying with each pitch what the machine would call it.

I agree we need to use the best technology available, but having it and only half using it doesn't seem to be helping.

No, the umpire had an up close, 3 foot away view and still got it wrong.

The human element in sports should be left to the players playing the game, not those making calls on the rules when we have things in place to make better and more accurate calls.

EVery call could be called either way if we want to ignore the rules that determine the strikezone.

If the strikezone is called properly, I imagine your second statement there wouldn't exist because the odds are pretty good that Marshall exits unscathed and we win.

How about they just have the tech to have a machine call balls and strikes....period. Have someone behind the plate to call out what the machine says and make other calls...BUT not Balls and Strikes....and these umps tendencies to move their zone around through the game...or late in the game...or by what team is hitting or hitter in general.

You want shorter games? This would be the way to do it.....you know what the zone is and you would not have teams ....like we know who...... taking pitch after pitch and getting benefits of calls beacuse of who they are.

I hate low-velocity bullpen arms, as a rule.

I hate low-velocity bullpen arms used as high-leverage guys even more.Yet Marshall has been one of the top late inning guys at least two years running. He had a bad outing. Generally, he's nails. I don't care if he throws it underhand if he consistently has easy innings, which he usually does. Today he made a mistake walking the #7 hitter then got screwed on a bad ball/strike call. What's his velocity got to do with that? In fact, he should have had back to back strikeouts on his way to working out of a jam.

BTW, I like guys on the mound at any point in the game who are throwing one of the best of a kind of pitch in the game. When he throws the curveball for a strike, which consistently he does, its a barely hittable to unhittable pitch. It makes major league hitters look silly. I'd reconsider that rule.

I'm really ticked about the call now. I was at the game and it was hard to tell from the left field stands and the replay looked like it might have been low. But pitch f/x shows it really wasn't even close. Rat farts!

Not really borderline.

Thanks they didn't show the pitch on the Giants broadcast. Although, Krukow did say the Giants got a break on that one. Terrible pitch call, no doubt about that. Just more reason to use Questech or something of the sort for balls and strikes. I hate games being decided by bad calls late in a game. You can usually overcome bad calls within the game but when they are late like yesterday you can't.
Still the Reds left some runs on base they should have had in. Stubbs blundering on the bases hurt them too. He slowed around 2nd and then tried to turn it on to third. Also wasted a good outing by Bailey. I thought that was the best he looked all season. If the Reds can get that from him most times out you will take it all season long.
Gotta put this one behind and move on. The Reds have to take care of business the next three series. I think they need 6 of 9 at the minimum against these poor teams. You got to beat up on the "littles" to win a divison or make the playoffs.
