He sure did give up a lot for Latos who isn't even better than Volquez. The Pads fleeced Jock on that dealio.

What are the facts? All i see is an unsupported opinion.

What I have a hard time believing is that Jocketty wants Willie Harris and other great ones that really fit the Dusty mold.

They both have one very good season. Volquez' 2008 and Latos' 2010. This year, Volquez is better. I thought this was common knowledge.

Anyway, even if you think Latos is better, is he so much better that Jock had to part with two other top prospects to get him?

What did he give up? None of those given up were in the long term plans of the Reds and he filled a glaring need. Walt has made some questionable moves..the SD and CUB deals are not.

Whom has greater upside? Latos without question.

Players are assets. Whether or not those players fit in here does not matter. Jock gave away a lot to get a guy who is marginally better than what he already had.

true, my only complaints with the SD trade was that we traded Edinson for, well, essesntially, another Edinson, just a younger version of EV.....and we had to throw in 2 studs, or 2 could be studs in the process......I would have rather traded Edinson for a stud left Fielder....but thats just my opinion and that is not really what this thread is about....but all in all, I cannot complain about the SD trade, that is only if I am trying to find a downside to it. I truly think Latos will end up a good starting pitcher, might not be a #1 but I think he will be a 2 for sure....

Latos is younger and may end being 10 times the pitcher Volquez is. However, you can't get around the fact that he was a slightly better than league average pitcher last year and the Reds gave up a lot to acquire him. Just sayin'.

Volquez is nowhere near Latos.

Volquez is in San Diego, California.

Latos is in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

They are definitely far apart.

Sometimes you got to let a little time expire before you make a judgement. I know we gave up alot to get Latos. The jury is still out.
