Frazier's first start in LF. I like it.

Reds lineup: Cozart SS, Stubbs CF, Votto 1B, Phillips 2B, Bruce RF, Frazier LF, Valdez 3B, Hanigan C, Cueto P.

Also, game is on Fox Sports Ohio. I love the change they made beginning last year as far as televising more afternoon games.

Good to see Frazier getting some much deserved PT, but if you're going to sit Rolen, isn't this the chance to let him play some 3B? I understand wanting the defense with the groundballer on the mound, but still, feels like a weird time to give Rolen a day off.

And Valdez 7th ahead of Hanigan? Dusty really doesn't like to take advantage of Hanigan's ability to put the ball in play, does he?

Glad to see them try Frazier in LF. I was wondering if they would do this considering how bad LF had been.

Here's the Brewers lineup:

1. Nyjer Morgan (L) CF
2. Rickie Weeks (R) 2B
3. Ryan Braun (R) LF
4. Aramis Ramirez (R) 3B
5. Corey Hart (R) RF
6. Jonathan Lucroy (R) C
7. Taylor Green (L) 1B
8. Cesar Izturis (S) SS
9. Zack Greinke (R) P

P

I agree. If Todd fields ok in LF, I could see him getting a bunch of at bats there.

At 3B, for this year, it's tougher for him to get at bats. There's Rolen and Cairo. And Valdez on occasion.

There's a need at both positions, but Todd has a better shot to play in the outfield this season IMO.

Came up as a LF. Very solid defender out there.

Came up as a LF. Very solid defender out there.

It is notable that Ryan Ludwick isn't getting much playing time lately. He played yesterday but Heisey's been getting much of the action and now Frazier today.

Reds can't be happy with LF, it's the obvious place to add some offense. Hopefully Todd will do that.

I'm not sure what the Reds were thinking if they were expecting much more. This position's failure so far wasn't hard to predict.

Wonder what Walt's thinking: His two big off-season bats have been complete flops. Willie Harris was DFA'd one month in and Ryan Ludwick rarely sees the field.

Maybe it's just me but I'd rather see Frazier at Third when Rolen sits than Valdez or Cairo. I like giving him a start in LF every now and then too.

CB Bucknor behind the plate. Expect some interesting calls.

elfmanvt07
05-09-2012, 01:13 PM
Greinke has fallen behind 2-0 in both ABs.

Stubbs pops one up behind the plate. Easy play for the 2. Two down.

Kc61
05-09-2012, 01:13 PM
I'm sure I'll eat these words, but this strikes me as an ideal game NOT to play Stubbs.

Hard to see him handling Greinke at all.

cumberlandreds
05-09-2012, 01:15 PM
Sounded easy for Greinke in the first. I don't have a good feeling about this one today.

elfmanvt07
05-09-2012, 01:15 PM
Joey ALSO sees the count go to 2-0 before hitting a 3-1 rocket right to Braun in left. Three up, three down.

He threw a couple FBs right down the pipe to Cozart. Must have been told to take a couple of pitches.

Morgan lines to Frazier in left. One away.

Good start for Cueto too. First team to score today may win this one.

elfmanvt07
05-09-2012, 01:25 PM
Braun making Cueto work.

Cueto rings him up on the 10th pitch of the AB with a good 2-seamer. 2 K's through one. Phillips, Bruce, Frazier coming up.

Once again it looks as though there is another umpire who thinks right down the middle is a ball.

elfmanvt07
05-09-2012, 01:26 PM
If you're referring to the 9th pitch, it looked low on TV.

elfmanvt07
05-09-2012, 01:27 PM
Brandon swings at the first pitch, hit pretty well to right, forcing Hart to work for it. F9. One away.

If you're referring to the 9th pitch, it looked low on TV.

Nah, I think it was the 5th pitch to Braun that according to Gamecast was right down the middle, but yet a ball. Also on Weeks it showed two that were right in the middle called balls. I know gamecast isn't the authoritative answer, but it is fairly accurate.

elfmanvt07
05-09-2012, 01:28 PM
Jay pops up a curve to the grass behind second. Two away.

elfmanvt07
05-09-2012, 01:30 PM
Frazier RIPS a liner to straight away center, but Morgan ranges back to make the catch. Beermakers with Ramirez, Hart, and Lucroy coming up.

elfmanvt07
05-09-2012, 01:32 PM
The Reds are making some pretty good contact. Nothing falling yet. Three that could have.

elfmanvt07
05-09-2012, 01:32 PM
Ramirez laces a double down the left field line for a double.

elfmanvt07
05-09-2012, 01:33 PM
Cart grounds to third. Doesn't advance the runner. Corey Hart still struggling.

Lucroy laces one up the middle. Runner held at third. On the corners with one away.

elfmanvt07
05-09-2012, 01:36 PM
Taylor Green is short enough and stands short enough to look like you're watching standard def content on a high def TV. Green promptly hits into the 6-4-3. Inning over.

elfmanvt07
05-09-2012, 01:37 PM
Green's zone on Gameday is wider than it is tall.

As long as he doesn't have the Snooki hair-do its all OK. :)

elfmanvt07
05-09-2012, 01:39 PM
Infield positioned for the bunt, Valdez grounds one sharply to first. One down.

elfmanvt07
05-09-2012, 01:40 PM
My fantasy baseball catcher stands in. Hanigan hitting .300 so far this season. He hits a topper over the mound. Izturis makes it look easy. 2 outs.

cumberlandreds
05-09-2012, 01:42 PM
Perfect game alert for Greinke. :) Never too early to put the jinx on for the opponent.

elfmanvt07
05-09-2012, 01:43 PM
Cueto fouls off the fifth and sixth pitches. Looks at a good fastball to end it. Cueto looks like he enjoys himself playing baseball.

elfmanvt07
05-09-2012, 01:45 PM
Cueto's fastball looks good so far today, slider has wandered. Izturis grounds the aforementioned slider to first, who flips to Cueto for the first out.

elfmanvt07
05-09-2012, 01:46 PM
Thom has basically talked about drinking for the past five minutes.

elfmanvt07
05-09-2012, 01:47 PM
Now all of a sudden Cueto's fastball is in the dirt on two straight pitches. Greinke waits for the 5th pitch.

elfmanvt07
05-09-2012, 01:48 PM
It's a slider tailing away from the right-handed Greinke, who breaks his bat and grounds it to Phillips.

elfmanvt07
05-09-2012, 01:48 PM
The Brewers starting lineup now has four hitters on the Interstate. One of them, Nyjer Morgan stands in.

elfmanvt07
05-09-2012, 01:49 PM
Morgan hits a sinking liner in front of Frazier, who was actually pretty shallow.

elfmanvt07
05-09-2012, 01:49 PM
Man on and here's Weeks.

elfmanvt07
05-09-2012, 01:50 PM

BTW, just re-wound ball four on Weeks. Anyone who thinks that's a strike needs to make an appointment with their optometrist. Clearly low and outside. And why is Cueto even throwing an 84-MPH slider on 3-0 against Weeks with Braun on deck? Just lay a fastball in there and dare Weeks to swing in that situation.

Anyway, definitely a ball though. No debate. I don't care what "Gamecast" says. I'm watching the game. Ha.

Izturis isn't much of a hitter, so I guess I'd let Cueto pitch to him. But I would remove Johnny after this hitter no matter what. Just a sense that he's had enough.

05-09-2012, 03:04 PM
I know I'm a broken record on this, but it's so hard to mount an attack against a Greinke with so few lefty hitters. A guy like Frazier is overmatched against Zack.

Not that it would be easy for a lefty, but the percentages would be somewhat better. After all, Reds don't need many runs to win this game, just a little offense would do it.
