At the game and don't have access to the full line-ups... Just getting the thread started.

Votto bobblehead night and should be a sell-out.

Cozart 6
Stubbs 8
Votto 3
Phillips 4

Latos 1

Nats

Desmond 6
Bernadina 7
RZimmerman 5
LaRoche 3
Harper 9
Espinosa 4
Ankiel 8
Ramos 2

For the life of me, I can't figure out why LaRoche is hitting cleanup for this team. It's just as odd as Phillips for us.

Jordan Zimmerman is like 20 days younger than Homer Bailey.

_Sir_Charles_

Cozy lead off single, Stubbs & Cozart safe on FC, Votto grounds out but both runners advance.

Roy Tucker
05-12-2012, 07:24 PM
So both guys were safe and it was a scored a fielders choice. No hit. Funny scoring.

Yeah, I don't buy that. Stubbs might've beat it out if they went straight to first.

Phillips with a tapper to short. 1-0 Reds Drew to 3rd.

Hum. Harper hit one out of GABP in BP.

_Sir_Charles_

Stubbs barely beat the throw. If the SS had thrown directly to first, he would have been out.

There's another guy I'd heard less than glowing reports on regarding his defense. Ludwick. He's looked VERY solid out there.

Ludwick has fielded well, the outfield generally fields well, really the whole team is very good defensively.

But Ludwick has to hit. Reds really need production out of LF. His early slump has been really unfortunate, hopefully he'll start turning it around very soon.

Tonight would be a good start.

Kc61
05-12-2012, 07:41 PM
Frazier Ks.

Ludwick smashes to third, Zim can't handle, base hit.

_Sir_Charles_
05-12-2012, 08:03 PM
Joey's good. He takes 2 hacks like he's trying to hit it to Kentucky, then shortens his swing and goes the other way. Infield single.

_Sir_Charles_
05-12-2012, 08:04 PM
Phillips K's and strands Votto at 1st.

1-0 Reds after 3 full.

latos at 100. Last 2 innings, LOTS of pitches.

_Sir_Charles_

mth123
05-12-2012, 08:50 PM
When we talk about luck being a part of ERA and you are having your doubts, remember this game. Latos walking the balpark, gives up a dinger to the 8 hitter and lets the judy lead-off guy take him off the wall. Pretty much doing everything that DIPS theory would make him have a high FIP. Those two fly balls should have been two runs. The first one should have plated the runner on third and the second would have plated the runner on second after he advanced on the first one. Then a great play by Phillips saves the runs for good. LUCK.

Now get somebody up in the pen.

I'm not a huge stat-head, but luck evens out in the long run. It's what you do with the luck that makes the difference. Latos shuts it down for 2 more innings, and he's taken advantage of the good luck afforded him.

_Sir_Charles_

Latos need to give this team close to 7 and he should be out of the game really by 5. This guy has to be better than this. He came in with very good numbers against Washington for his career.

_Sir_Charles_

Lead off walk for Votto.

As for Latos, he had 2 tough innings with high pitch counts. But overall, he did fine. His control clearly wasn't as good as it should've been, but that wasn't a bad game IMO.

No, I'm saying that for someone who didn't have their good stuff, he managed to limit the damage to 1 run. The nats made some mistakes and he took advantage of them. Hardly what i'd call a bad start.

Just not sold on this team. Walt & Bob continue to ignore the obvious year after year. 2010 was an anomaly. This team won't see the playoffs until they get a true cleanup hitter/LFer. And now 3B is a joke. Stubbs is a joke.

Me too. This team (the Nats) has a wonderful pitching staff, but they are getting production from the bottom of the order and our guys allowed 2 runs in 9 innings, which is great. The problem is obvious and I think the only solution is to bring in a banger who can hit to boost this club. A trade? I hope because the "kids" haven't been the answer so far.

I would pitch around Votto to make Phillips face a righty every time. The difference in likely outcome is striking.

Against righties, Votto has a career wOBA of .414 while Phillips had a wOBA of .315. Thats a difference of 52 runs or 5 WAR over 600 PAs..... Against righties, Phillips is really miscast at the cleanup bat that splits the lefties.

Reds are 13-9 in games in which they hold the opponent to 4 runs or less so far this season.

Reds are scoring .17 runs a game below league average. 12 games against the leagues two best pitching staffs.

Yeah, they could use another bat, but it's not as bad as it seems.
