Ready? Wilson Valdez is a pretty good backup player. He went to the World Series in that role with the Phillies. He plays nice steady defense at several positions. He's a pure backup infielder, more of a defensive guy, you can't expect too much hitting but he gets a single or double once in awhile.

The comments about Valdez are just picking on the little guy. He's really not the problem. It's the starting players with sub-.300 OBPs who are the problem.

You may now continue discussing this game, which the Reds are winning thankfully.

I agree that he's not the problem. Or even A problem. The problem I had with him was that we already had him and for a much cheaper rate in Janish. Nearly identical hitter, better defender, just as versatile. He wasn't needed. /psudo-rant

Notice how the Yankees have such a fabulous balance of righty hitters, lefty hitters, switch hitters.

Late innings, Wise a weak hitter up, they pinch hit the lefty Chavez against righty Bailey. Base hit.

If the tables were turned, the Reds would have used Cairo or Ludwick, with the percentages in favor of the pitcher.

Braves are similar. Well balanced offense. Reds, not so much.

Logan v. Jeter with two men on. Great duel here.

0-2, two beautiful pitches by Logan. Chappy throwing. Dusty playing to win. Good.

Jeter fouls to stay alive. All the great hitters foul off those pitches with two strikes.

Let's go Logan.

Chapman faced the heart of the order. If Marshall doesn't have it, he would have been clobbered by the 8th inning group.

You can't hide a guy pitching him in the eighth. Marshall just has to pitch a little better.
