I don't want to believe it, but if I was one of our opponents, I would be calling Latos a headcase right now. He reacts to every close ball/strike pitch. That is no way to make friends with the umpires. Just not a big fan of his attitude on the mound.

Yes FSN is really messed up tonight. There have picture problems. In the first we got the Braves audio for one play and the audio has been messed up this half inning too.

The Royals/Yankees game is on MLB Network here in Detroit and I'm pissed. :thumbdown:

How do they determine what game they are gonna show? Is it because Detroit is an AL market?

I love Latos' competitive edge and raw emotion. It gets him in trouble sometimes....but you could just see how Ross stepped out of the box to start that AB ticked Latos off.

He followed that up with 96, 96, 95, 95.

That's what I figured. It's just frustrating because Detroit is only a four hour drive from Cincinnati, and The Braves/Reds game was considered the primary game all week on the MLB Network promos...

I'm in the same boat. Living 2 hours north of Detroit, have two different MLB Network channels through DirecTV, and for some reason the Reds/Braves are blacked out on the primary and I'm getting Yanks/Royals on the alternate??

MLB and their blackout policies.....:rant:

Latos is mixing pitches and keeping guys off balance really well. Anybody else think Hanny has a huge part in his improvement the last couple starts? He's just so collected and calls such a great game.

He brainwashed me from birth, I'm a buckeye sports fan through and trough. Just enjoyed my college visit of Miami more, that's all. That's the thing about MAC schools, I can root for Ohio State and nobody much cares. First game of the season will be interesting though... ;)

Oh, no question about it! There's tons of OSU fans that went to other colleges. I personally went to OSU, but one of the biggest Buckeye fans I know is an OU grad. He roots for the Bobcats too, but doesn't consider it a conflict of interest.

If you're on the campus of ANY college in Ohio on a football Saturday, TVs in the dorms are on OSU football games.

yes that has been the main issue with Latos so far. He is not pitch efficient. Most starts you get 5 or 6 innings at best.

Anyone have run support numbers when Latos is pitching? I feel like he has been given several leads this year which he has been unable to hold. It seems like he is the one pitcher who can't complain about run support...

Somebody (PRICE!!!) needs to sit Latos down and tell him once he gets ahead of hitters to go aggressively after them instead of trying to get them to chase and to nibble. Pound them. You're stuff is good enough to just go after the hitters. Heck, listen to Leake. He said the same thing yesterday basically.

If you watch, it seems that the most often time that Latos shakes off the catcher is in a 2 strike count.

I'm not sure if it's that he's trying to nibble or that he just doesn't have very good control of his offspeed stuff.

Thom/Chris keep alluding to how good of a game Hanigan calls and how Latos is just going with Hanigan. To me it just seems like Latos doesn't throw many sliders/curves for strikes, so hitters sit and wait for the heat.

I agree we were due for some dingers. But I really want to see a few sustained rallys. When was the last time we saw a 3 run inning (or more) withOUT a dinger? It feels like it's been a LONG time.

They keep talking about how quick Beachy is to plate, and I'm not seeing it. I think they are seeing that he doesn't have a high leg and are assuming that it's quick and a slide step, but he kind of hangs there at the top of his motion for a second.

I'd like to see his time compared to other "quick to the plate" pitchers.

I would also say that I'm pretty sure Marty made it to the HOF because of Joe. Joe seemed to be a calming influence on Marty. Just look at what Marty has become since.

I've seen lead off catchers before. Lead off Hanigan, he suits the role. He doesn't have speed, the current lead off hitters aren't base stealers anyway.

We will need one. At this point if we made the playoffs with this roster I'm afraid it would be a lot like the 2010 playoffs.

The good news though is that right now there's no real dominate NL team (I'm not convinced the Dodgers will keep up their current pace).

Team with a .300 OBP at minimum will need one or two on base guys. I think they are ok in the power department, but this whole Ludwick, Frazier, Heisey, Stubbs, Rolen, Cairo brigade could use OBP guys.

Like I said, we're talking about quite a ways away. The team OBP could improve significantly by then.

If things stand pat as they are now, of course they'd need to add a bat or two. But if players improve and get back to their norms...maybe they won't need a bat.
