I wil agree with that. I hate it when all Stubbs has to do is dive and he can make a catch and he pulls up and lets it drop. Seems like he does that often

Not so sure of that, but it seems that Heisey is a better CF than LF, which is kinda strange.

Hell yeah! Phillips with a bleeder down the third-base line. Porcello tries to flip it to the plate, but Cozart scores, Votto goes to third. 1-0 Reds. Ruled a hit and RBI for BP. (And an error on Porcello allowing the runner to advance.)

C: Hanigan/Mesoraco v Avila/Laird ... wash.

1B: Votto v Fielder ... wash (if anything, Votto)

2B: Phillips v Raburn, Santiago (or whatever scrub the Tigers are playing at 2B that day) ... Phillips

3B: Rolen/Frazier v Cabrera ... Cabrera

SS: Cozart v Peralta ... Cozart (we're not talking about last year)

LF: Ludwick/Heisey v Young ... wash (Young's numbers stink ... they're like spoiled milk)

CF: Stubbs v Jackson ... Jackson (but not by much)

RF: Bruce v Boesch ... Bruce

Perralta has better numbers this year than Cozart so I would call that a wash also. Cozart would be better if this team had a legitimate leadoff hitter. Basically their about even but this Tigers team is an under achieving bunch which isn't like a Leyland team. When V-Mart comes back the lineup will be that much better. Votto can afford to take pitches. Votto sees pitches differently than other players, otherwise he wouldn't be Votto. It may seem easy to take the first pitch, but if guys like Cozart and a thousand others get down 0-1, they become very poor hitters.

If watching Votto was the answer, you and me (OK, maybe just you) would be in the majors. But I'd be in the high minors.

Agree. Last few nights Heisey has made some great catches. This inning, the first one was catchable, the second one should have been pretty easy.

Tose great catches were ones that were simply the border of his range. And a rangey CF makes them look more easy.

Every player has an edge to his range. So, every player can make what looks like a great catch. No mater how slow or bad his range is.

Kc61

Man, Latos has looked awfully good tonight and this inning is just like a perfect storm of bad luck.

I don't think Latos had first class defense behind him that inning. The first one, Heisey should probably have caught it. I thought one of the ground ball singles was probably playable.

Have to give Latos credit there getting out of the inning with only two runs scored. Bases full, no outs, Cabrera and Fielder up, that's one tall order.

If Mat can work one more good inning, I'd call this a very successful outing.

That may be true as to the second catch. The first one, the leaping catch, I thought was pretty darn good, for any centerfielder.

Heisey is acceptable as a backup centerfielder. But he has to show better plate discipline. Guy has only 6 walks all season. He is not a starting centerfielder.

We've debated Heisey's defense. Nothing to debate on his offense.

Heisey is hitting about .255 BA. It may be the worst .255 I've ever seen. He never walks, he swings at everything, he stops hitting as soon as he is in the regular lineup.

Heisey has me excited that Stubbs may soon be back, believe it or not.
