It sure would be nice to see a solid outing from Latos. I've seen one really good start from him this year.

@ PP And I agree Frazier could use a day off...but I fear this might be an all too common occurrence now. I hope I'm wrong.

I think Dusty made the right call there. We DO need to be more aggressive on the basepaths. We've been very passive this season in that regard.

Exactly right, unless Willingham swung at it. And if he swung at it he would have missed it or popped up.

And if he walked, the Twins would have had two on, but the Reds would still be leading.

Once Chapman fell behind 3-1 the last thing I wanted was for him to fear the walk. Well, Aroldis avoided the walk. His walk rate was not hurt. His won-lost record was hurt.

I don't think that Baker has bunted all year with a runner on second, one out.

Latos is a pretty horrible bunter. I think that factored into it.

Hanigan is also a glacial runner. Swinging away was the best choice there, in my opinion.

Sure with no outs, or runners on first or second.

But one out and a runner on second? Unless the hitter was clearly bunting for a base hit, I can't recall ever seeing it.

Bunting with runners on first and second and no outs is OK with a good hitter as long as he's trying for a base hit, with the sacrifice as a consolation prize.

The promotion for this series was also a great one. They took away $4 from certain ticket prices for each Reds win in the previous homestand (not against the Twins, but the one before).

It's shaping up to be a good summer for the Reds attendance.

That's something I've been an advocate of since last season. Hitting in front of Votto he's seeing a lot more fastballs. Now just to get a cleanup LF so Phillips can move to leadoff.

I agree. That pitch is noticeably low (about 3" lower than a usual bottom of the zone) and disturbingly consistent.

As for the zone, some of the credit should go to both catchers. They're both framing pitches VERY well. It "shouldn't" affect the zone...but it does.

I agree. That pitch is noticeably low (about 3" lower than a usual bottom of the zone) and disturbingly consistent.

If it's consistent, I don't have a problem with it. Hitters need to adjust.

I think a strike should be a pitch in the strike zone. I don't think umpires should have the ability to have their own special strike zones.

Inconsistent is obviously worse, but this ump is affecting the game with his unusual strike zone.

Tonight you can see why Latos was such a prized property when on the market.

He has an outstanding fastball and an outstanding breaking ball.

Win, lose, or draw, if Latos can pitch like this that trade was a great one for the Reds. Don't know how his career turns out, but in terms of potential, this guy is off the charts.

12 Ks against the Brew crew. But even more impressive, his heater is fabulous and his breaking ball is equally excellent.

Guy is a potential ace, now needs consistency. Wow, great outing.

Dominating performance by Latos... IMO no other pitcher on the staff is really capable of games like that. Cueto just doesnt overpower like that, more of a control guy that gets K with good location. Great job by Latos.
