This is one of those games Reds can't expect to win and wouldn't be a tragedy to lose. Reds would have a split in SF which is good.

Still, it would be a GREAT game to win. Let's hope Bronson is on like last time, but gets relieved in due time. Reds bullpen is well rested after two consecutive complete games.

Cozart flies out on the first pitch.

Vogelsong has just as much of a gripe at not making the All Star team as Cueto does.

Sandoval who in no way should be starting the all star game grounds out to short.

Kc61
07-01-2012, 04:43 PM
Amazing that the Giants have three all star starters. It shows you what an excellent pitching staff and rabid fans can get you. Melky Cabrera got more all star votes than Joey Votto.

Angel Pagan came in fifth in the voting for NL outfield.

How many stolen bases do the Giants have in this series?

Kc61
07-01-2012, 04:51 PM
So far in this game, the Reds outstanding defense has kept things scoreless.

Just as I type that, Hanigan throws the ball into centerfield allowing the stolen base. No advance to third, though.

_Sir_Charles_
07-01-2012, 04:51 PM
Bronson is struggling with control...and its rubbing off on Hanny now as he sails one over into the OF. But Stubbs backs it up quickly.

I agree. For those who missed it....

“It’s kind of difficult to be overly happy today, considering the two guys I thought were shoo-ins aren’t going to be on the team,” he said. “That’s frustrating. I knew I was going to be an All-Star. I was hoping those two guys, the five of us, would go to Kansas City. As much as I don’t want to get into pissing contest right now, as happy as I am for myself and Jay, I’m disappointed for the two guys who are very, very meaningful to this first-place ballclub.”

Kc61
07-01-2012, 05:03 PM
In 8 starts at SF this year, Vogelson's OPS against is .555. Include the fact that Votto isn't playing. Include the fact that the Reds have only one lefty hitter other than Votto (although Vogelsong is tough against both righties and lefties). Include the fact that Arroyo's run support this season is among the worst in the league.

It would be a great game to win for the Reds, uphill battle.

I hope the horse isn't dead. That makes it sound irreversible.

Phillips gets hit by a pitch, the Giants announcers are livid, they say it did not hit him, they are furious because their Vogelsong can't pitch a perfect game today.

I haven't heard them mention, however, the good fortune of their beloved Giants that the best hitter in the league is on the bench today because of an inflamed knee.

The Extra Innings package with the opposing team's announcers makes it hard to watch the game. I think I'll shut off the sound and listent to the Reds radio broadcast which will be ten seconds delayed from the TV action.

I agree about going to the pen a little early here. Dusty should have played this game like the Rockies would. 75 pitches and Bronson is out. taking 3 of 4 would be huge for the start of this trip

I really don't understand Dusty on Arroyo. He said recently that it's hard to judge when to remove Bronson from the game, or words to that effect.

Arroyo is a 90-95 pitch guy. Today he has been hit fairly hard, the bullpen is well stocked, all these lefties coming up.

I can understand the difficulty of these decisions with some of the other pitchers. With Arroyo? He should be removed earlier in many of his games. Like this one.

All things considered, I think Bronson pitched VERY well today. He clearly didn't have his good stuff and he really battled and minimized damage.

But yeah, he should be done. Leaving him in there wasn't that bad of a decision...his pitch count wasn't that high and he was facing the bottom of the order. The single just pushed it up some. Much ado about nothing IMO.
