Here is the Reds lineup. Scotty R. is back and raring to go. I think RA Dickey is due for a bad game. What say ye?

Reds need to keep it rolling. This week, they have a big scheduling advantage over Bucs and Cards. Reds playing under .500 teams at home. Starting next week, August 20, Reds have some tough series.

Let's get this win. Dickey is tough, but a little patience goes a long way. Unfortunately, the Reds have little patience at the plate.

Kc61
08-15-2012, 04:07 PM
Reds might have used XMan tonight. Dickey is tough on everybody but lefties do much better in the OBP area. Lefties also walk more against him. Power numbers against him are pretty close lefty/righty.

Against righties, Dickey has walked 11 guys in 335 PAs this year throwing a knuckleball. Unreal. WVReds fan, patience will be good, but if they stand up there waiting for walks, they will be sorely disappointed.

Overall Dickey's allowed 127 hits in 162 innings. Unless he has an off night, key may be a couple of long hits for the Reds and a great performance by Leake. Tough one tonight.

I think Scotty could do well vs. Dickey

He's 5 for 9 against him (.556/.545/1.000) with one HR. Out of the four knuckleballers I could find during his career, he's batting .387 against them, including 1.000 against Jared Fernandez. Tim Wakefield seemed to know how to pitch to him (.222). I'm hoping he continues his dominance of Dickey.

No he's not, but that's why he said he's been giving better at-bats recently. He's working the count a lot better, and in fact this is the second straight game he's drawn a walk. Hence, the numbers may not show it yet, but he's showing signs of bringing up his OBP because the walks may begin to follow.

Let's say the reds win the division and goes deep in the play-offs or even World series.

Dusty does not have a contract for next year.

Will he do what he did in San Francisco, and leave for a bigger payday like he did when he went to the Cubs?

I'm assuming that is what happened. Why wouldn't the Giants offer him a contract after going to the WS?

This is what happened right? It's been a while and I might have forgotten something about the situation in San Fran.

I'm going to play devils advocate.

Dusty has big leverage in negotiations. He'll be in demand and he could easily just retire. So the Reds or somebody is going to give him a big deal or he'll just go back to ESPN and enjoy his life.

my problem with that is we all know Rolan will get injured again, back shoulder, etc. Do you set Frazier, then put him back in the line-up and risk his bat cooling off.

You can platoon Frazier and Ludwick and screw them both up.

One thing for sure, your stater in game #1 will have at least 4 days rest before game 5.

The only chance you don't go with your #1 starter in game 5 is an injury or you weren't given a chance to set your rotation and your 1st game starter isn't at the front end of your rotation.

Frazier was hitting even when he was in the platoon earlier in the year. I think it's safe to assume he'll be OK. And it's not like Rolen will be able to play everyday anyhow. They'll find days off for him and Votto and Ludwick as well. Frazier will manage to play two of every three games in some fashion or another.

I agree. If things go normally, yeah I'd follow the conventional wisdom. But I'd STILL seriously consider carrying all 5 starters. Who do you replace them with if you don't carry them? We've got nobody of note in AAA really. Leake's got speed and can hit. Bailey or Bronson could be used as long men if need be. Just saying I'd consider it for sure.

Not to mention...the way these 5 starters have performed this year...they DESERVE to be on the playoff roster.

Even if Rolen keeps hitting, he'll need at least 2-3 days off per week. Ludwick needs to stay fresh too, so he'll rest about twice. Figure Votto will be given plenty of rest coming off knee surgery, and Frazier can play about 5-6 times per week.
