Go Reds!"Hidey ho, neighbor. Think we'll be on the smiling side of the scoreboard today? I hope the Beaumont Bomber does it again. But boy, those Cubs sure will try their gosh darn hardest to make it really tough for the Reds, you can bet on that. Not that I want you to bet on baseball or anything. There's just no quit in those guys."

Fresh off the presses:

Cozart
Heisey CF
Phillips
Bruce
Frazier 3B
Paul LF
Cairo 1B
Hanigan
Cueto

Boy am I sick of seeing Miguel Cairo playing first. He must have the intangibles of Mother Theresa, because I think she outhits him.

Probably a safe assumption - guessing Dusty will play the A-team tonight knowing we may need lots of runs.

Yes. From what I saw they'll be on the whole night. (Probably with a break between games)

Kc61

Righty pitches for the Cubs in the day game, lefty in the night game. That's why Stubbs plays the night game (Heisey in) and that's why XMan plays the day game.

Rolen sits because day game after night game, I guess, although that same night/day situation happens tomorrow again. With Cueto's ground ball tendencies, Scott arguably should have played game 1.

Guessing night game will be Mesoraco, Frazier (1B), Phillips, Valdez (SS), Rolen, Ludwick, Stubbs, Bruce.

HBP leads off game on 0-2 pitch.

Rizzo up, one on one out, Cueto goes up 0-2 third batter in a row.

Fastball right down the middle. Bounce a slider up there and Soriano swings at it.

Agree completely.

Those ball three pitches are dangerous. Pitchers fear the walk and tend to make them too good. That's my guess, that Cueto just didn't want to walk him and paid the price.

Three down. 2-0 Cubs.

What's frustrating is that the Cubs have two guys who do almost all the damage. Soriano and Castro.

Can't let those guys beat you. If somebody else gets hot, so be it.

Bruce up now, pitcher had Heisey picked off but goes to second safely on a bad throw to first.

Bruce fans. This Cubs pitcher is pretty good.

Phillips up now following the poor at bat by Heisey.

Ludwick's up. Good decision by Dusty IMO. Hope he uses someone other than Chapman in the 9th, would rather see Chapman saved for tonight if necessary. I feel pretty good with a 3 run lead no matter who's pitching.

Chappy's up.

Ludwick pinch-hit for Cueto and grounded into a fielders choice. 5-2 Reds after eight innings.

Chapman coming in to pitch the 9th.

Eh. Oh well. Just me nitpicking.

Did everyone see Castro gets a 7 year 60 million dollar extension? A lot of money if you ask me for a guy that isn't a great defender and quite frankly doesn't seem into the game very often.

If you have the Cubs money though it's a good deal to lock him up.

I'm not sure that I would. I see the argument for keeping him. But if I'm a Cubs fan I'd probably prefer they trade him for a package of young talent.

Castro's a pretty talented player.

2-2 on Vitters. Chapman needs to get him with Soriano and Castro up next.

My biggest beef with Baker... The three run lead save. These are the ones you give to Broxton, Marshall, even Ondrusek... okay, maybe not Ondrusek, but you get my point. Especially with 4 games in three days.

Absolutely no need to use Chapman here.

I think with Cueto having started, this is the one Dusty wants locked down with Chapman.

They won't need Chapman in the second game because Todd Freakin' Redmond is going to pitch a complete game shutout.

LOL, I completely disagree.

You don't mess around in winning ballgames. You put them away.

Particularly this game with another one tonight. You don't want trouble here.

Agree with Dusty here.

Game 2 is against a lefty that they already saw once. Chances are good the offense can make game 2 a laugher if Redmond and the rest of the boys can do well, Probably wants to save the longer guys for Redmond's start. I'd guess Redmond will have a short leash with Lecure and Simon ready to go quickly.

I'm very glad Chapman pitched. He was due to give up a run once every 24 games, so at least he did it with a 3-run cushion. Now he should go scoreless the rest of the season :)

Yeah, he got the bad one out of the way. Two of the hits should have been caught and he struck out two.

Not bad to have a closer for whom that's a bad outing.

Let's get tonight's game and let Latos go for the sweep. And it's time to start rooting for the Pirates to lose.

The Star of the Game is Johnny Cueto.

I figure that Chapman is unavailable foe Game 2. The combination of Broxton and Marshall should be able to close, if needed.

I also think that Brandon Phillips might get the second game off, with Wilson Valdez getting the start at 2B. Otherwise it will be the regulars with Mesoraco catching. My prediction:

Cozart ss
Stubbs cf
Frazier 1b
Ludwick lf
Bruce rf
Rolen 3b
Valdez 2b
Mesoraco c
Redmond p

The Reds have a rookie pitcher going, their closer unavailable and a lefty that they just saw pitching against them. I'm guessing the regular RH bats will all play. I'm guessing the Reds will try to pour on the runs to insulate them from a poor outing by Redmond and to keep it from being close late in the game with Chapman unavailable. Valdez can play tomorrow when the team can lean on Latos.
