I enjoyed the unis last night, and generally enjoy throwbacks, but was curious, when an away team wears them as we did last night, do we pay for them, or does the home team have to since its their promotion?

I would think that the reds would pay for their own but I don't know for sure.
I did enjoy the look though, it took me right back to my college days.

I doubt the Reds paid for them, pro sports dont pay for the uniforms.
Majestic pay them to provide them with uniforms in exchange for the right to sell merchandise.
I cant find the details for the MLB deal but Nike paid $1.1 Billion for the right to supply uniforms for the NFL for the next 5 years.

Athletes don't pay for any of the equipment they use, uniforms, gloves, cleats, etc. - the companies love to sponsor players and endorse their product. It exists even in the college level. I think Bronson paid for his glove and cleats though, those are from when he was in high school
I really enjoyed the throwback uniforms last night for both the Reds and the Phillies. It was unknown until the game's start which added to the effect.

Speaking of throwbacks, did anyone see the MLB Network compare the 2012 Reds to the 1990 Reds? It was awful.

I noticed that the throwbacks the Reds wear are always pullovers. Do they do that to save money? Why not use the button-up jerseys like the Phillies did with their throwbacks?
The unis looked good but were ill-fitting and baggy. Also the Phils had the matching helmets and caps, we didn't.
I'm not much to care about baseball fashion, but if you're going to do something, do it right.

As far as the unis being pullovers, thats what those uni's were back in the day. I think they had both pullovers and button ups. I wish they would do the home sleaveless throwbacks from 1990 I think it was.

I'm curious what was wrong with our caps?

I'm with you. But I suppose the thinking is that the drop shadow gives the logo some depth. Whatever. I wish they would just bring back the flat wishbone C.

They removed the black which is good enough for me. I don't mind the thicker C compared to the flat C. I think they both look great, sans black.

Thats why I think throwback nights are not that nostalgia-inducing for me. Would it kill them for one night to wear uniforms that are not so baggy and wear the stirrups?

Love the all red caps. Hopefully they'll do away with the black bill soon enough now that the crazy black fad is waning.

I noticed the Reds shop has those jerseys for sale, but they're ridiculously high. I wonder why the didn't make some more affordable?

Actually I didn't even notice they were the all red caps. I figured it was the regular away cap.
I just remember when we used to do throwbacks the caps and helmets weren't the right ones.

Loved it. We look bigger and badder in those old unis IMO. :)
The Big Red Machine and/or "Red October" is back! b:beerme:
I love those uniforms. I never watched the BMR, but I have always thought those unis where so sharp. I much perfer them over the ones we have now. Not complaining about the ones we have now, I think those are fine. I guess it's just because I love plain.
